#JohnNaughton asks, in The #Guardian, if #Tesla is doing to the car industry what #Apple did to #Nokia. There are several errors in the article (the Tesla Roadster was based on a #Lotus #Elise, not Elite, and the #Toyota #bZ4x is *not* cheaper than a Tesla. Which is precisely the problem traditional car manufacturers are facing. They can’t build #EVs cheap enough. Even worse, some (like #Ford and @VWGroup) are actually cutting back investment!

What Apple did to Nokia, Tesla is now doing to the motor industry

People scoffed at the idea of electric vehicles for the masses. But now a Tesla hatchback has outsold the Toyota Corolla

The Guardian
@Setok @VWGroup BEVs are older than ICE cars. Anyone can make a BEV and it is simpler than building an ICE car. This is just techno cargo-cultism. Just because Tesla is imitating Apple doesn't mean the conclusion is real. In fact, it is completely backwards.
@Hypx @VWGroup you might not like Tesla for reasons, but they are the company that has done most to popularise EVs, they invested heavily to do that, and their cars are now outselling Toyota. So credit where due.
@Setok @VWGroup That is missing the point. Because BEVs are so simple, it is Tesla that faces the greatest threat of being outcompeted. They are just dumping outdated cars at effectively a loss, and are completely dependent on subsidies. People need to realize how cars actually work, and not fall into cargo cultism.
