Wildfire season 2017: 2 million acres are burning across the US

As hurricanes have devastated islands and monsoon flooding has displaced millions, one of the worst wildfire seasons ever has ignited blazes across the US.

Fire is such a powerful symbol. This reminded me of Alex Shaefer's paintings of banks on fire.

"""
Alex Shaefer's series of banks on fire has earned him two visits from the L.A. police, who asked if he was a terrorist who planned to follow through on his paintings, according to the LA Times. He told them he isn't and that the painting are a metaphor for the damage caused to the economy by banks.

@jackofalltrades it’s so funny how people think rich people have some sort of higher intelligence than everyone else.

@pollute_my_lungs There was a study about it, in fact: https://theconversation.com/are-rich-people-more-intelligent-heres-what-the-science-says-205694

"""
A fine intellectual ability improves the chances of getting rich. Nonetheless, intelligence is no guarantee of getting rich. Furthermore, a series of fortunate events can clearly turn unremarkable individuals into high earners.

That is, when it comes to getting rich, intelligence is neither sufficient nor necessary. But it does help.

Are rich people more intelligent? Here's what the science says

Education, contacts and luck can play a considerable role when it comes to building up wealth.

The Conversation
@jackofalltrades well I’m skeptical we can measure intelligence. Maybe we need a definition. But nonetheless, a person could be an expert in one thing and an idiot in another thing.
@jackofalltrades @pollute_my_lungs I always think of the line from Citizen Kane:”It’s not hard to make a lot of money. If all you want, is a lot of money. “
@jackofalltrades Wow. I couldn't believe it was a real picture. Jesus
@jackofalltrades
Overused meme, but perfect for this occasion.🔥
@Barbramon1 @jackofalltrades
😂 Retire this one and replace it with the golfers!
(updated with another of my low quality #memes, hey it's fine!)
@SNerd Thanks!The more I look at this photo the more insane it seems.
My brother was in a serious wildfire. The fire literally jumped over several homes, his included. Other homes on his street burned to the ground.
Fires are unpredictable. Amazed that the golf course was open. It's madness.
@jackofalltrades
Is that Trump on the back 9?
@ipd @jackofalltrades The hugely raging orange thing? No, that's fire.
@jackofalltrades is this picture for real?
Laura "Tegan" Gjovaag ⛈ (@[email protected])

@[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] I remember that fire, and that photo. They aren't actually all that close to the flames. They're on the other side of the Columbia River... in a different state. It's a dramatic shot, but they weren't in any danger nor causing any problems for first responders. That said, it IS the perfect shot to illustrate how people think of the coming environmental disaster.

@jackofalltrades

when you look up idiots in the dictionary

@jackofalltrades when I first saw this picture, I thought it had to be fake. Wow!
@jackofalltrades
They are taking the approach in the 2nd frame.
@jackofalltrades This is real?????!
@Cat_Toots @jackofalltrades yes. There is some clever perspective and focus going on to make the fire seem a little closer than it really is, but I remember looking into it when the article and photo came out bc I thought it seemed a bit too on the nose, and I live in the area so i was quite curious. But we live in an era that seems like satire a lot I guess.

@jackofalltrades

I had this pic as my avi on another social media account, and had to constantly tell ppl the pic is not about golf.
🙄

@jackofalltrades I see them all about to die, so I'm not sure what to regret
Did Nero really fiddle while Rome burned, and why are people linking this to Donald Trump?

“Nero fiddled while Rome burned,” the saying goes. But why are people linking an ancient legend to a meme of Donald Trump playing the violin?

Classic FM
@jackofalltrades The Rich do not care, never have, that’s why we allow them to hoard nearly ALL the resources, right? Wait…
@jackofalltrades caption should read "Everything's fine"

@jackofalltrades
Huh. Golf you say?

I see rich people playing the fiddle...

@jackofalltrades Golfing while Rome burns.
@jackofalltrades
Nero: *puts down violin*
Oil Billionaires: Nay, if music be the food of denial, play on!
Politicians: Here, let me set up a few more deck chairs for you guys...
@jackofalltrades The western world will do nothing to late. Not even too little.
@jackofalltrades
This is the "Don't Look Up" strategy. If you ignore it, it does not exists
@jackofalltrades what a hotshot 🤔🙄👀😳
@jackofalltrades Smile and wave Boys, smile and wave!
@jackofalltrades That "This is fine" meme use to be a cartoon.
@jackofalltrades This has real “This is fine” energy.
Man who mowed lawn with tornado behind him says he 'was keeping an eye on it' | CBC News

The wife of an Alberta man who mowed his lawn with a tornado swirling behind him says the twister wasn't as close it appears in images on social media.

@TWSheppard That made me laugh, thank you for that. 😁
