With Super Mario Bros and Barbie being the only movies to cross $1 billion at the box office this year, we should expect Hollywood to dig deep into the childhood nostalgia category in the coming years.

We already have adult-themed Barney and Polly Pocket movies in the works. The recent Transformers movie set up a reboot of the GI Joe movie franchise.

All we need is for Nintendo to announce big screen Legend of Zelda and Metroid movies to take this trend over the top.

@carnage4life A properly produced Zelda movie would be… kinda nice?
@carnage4life it’s crazy how well these woke movies did at the box office. I was told by chodes that people hate wokeness.
@carnage4life Also the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie!
@carnage4life I would adore a Metroid movie. Especially if it gets solid story writers. ♥️ #SamusAran
@carnage4life I'm just waiting for the live action version of The Magic Roundabout.
@carnage4life I haven't watched the Super Mario movie, but 'Barbie' movie's success is not an effect of nostalgia, but of making a decent movie with more depth of theme than is usual for Hollywood (even if that's not saying a lot and it's white feminism all the way down). Making a bet on nostalgia based on that is not understanding anything.
@Illuminatus @carnage4life “Not understanding anything” is how Hollywood execs operate, tho.

@carnage4life

“Adult-themed Barney”?

(stares off into sea)

SEA: C’mon. You know you want to. Just walk in.

ME: Well…

SEA: ‘Adult-themed Barney.’

ME: …

SEA: Just walk in. Why are you even delaying this?

@carnage4life Chuckle Bros reboot incoming.
