Full Trump lawyer: Election fraud case will be ‘most important’ civil rights case in decades

John Lauro, attorney to Donald Trump, joins Meet the Press to discuss the former president’s legal defense following his indictment over efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

NBC News
Meanwhile, the former president wants a change of venue (apparently to #WestVirginia), contending he can’t get a fair trial in #DC because he’s calling for a “federal takeover” of the “filthy and crime ridden” district.
@w7voa this might be the first time, or at least the first significant time, that West Virginia has been hashtagged on Mastodon.

@w7voa

From here on, he will be doing a lot of squeaking, wining, insulting and false accusations. All signals that he painted himself nicely into a corner by now... a former president, can you imagine? This con man, this snake oil salesman. Tar and feathers should be the only possible punishment to drive him out of Washington... for good.

@w7voa Hmmm, he cries that he can't get a fair trial in NY where he lived and worked for most of his life. Then he cried that he couldn't get a fair trial in DC where he lived and worked for 4 years. I'm thinking maybe the problem isn't the cities, it's the criminal.
@oreoteeth @w7voa OBJECTION!! Your Honor, I... um, er, ah... I'm sorry, what were we talking about?

@w7voa

Uhm, a “Federal takeover” of a federal district over which Congress has constitutional authority- “To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States…”

@w7voa I wonder what he feels, or thinks, the all caps thing adds.

@w7voa

Ummm, declaring that the District of Columbia should be taken over by the Feds (which, heh), then declaring that his very loudly stated position will be very unpopular with potential jury members in DC, which now means he won't get a fair trial...

That's still jury tampering, isn't it?

At this rate, the racist arse will be all-capping the N-word and then declaring he can't get a fair trial in DC.

@w7voa

hmmm

"Article One, Section Eight of the United States Constitution grants the United States Congress "exclusive jurisdiction" over the city."

I dunno maybe his lawyers can explain it to him

@w7voa This is all very tiresome. Which I suppose is the point. Anything to taint the jury pool. It won't work.
@w7voa Pro tip for Trump: If you want to avoid a District of Columbia jury, don't commit crimes in the District of Columbia.

@w7voa ‘I need a new judge on the grounds that this judge cannot be impartial, because I have threatened her.’

‘I need a new venue on the grounds that this city cannot produce impartial jurors, because I’ve insulted amd threatened the city.’

This can’t be a functional legal strategy, can it?

@w7voa Aside from being a wild exaggeration of both how bad the murder rates compare historically as well as his level of commitment to making any actual changes to DC governance, this has to be a violation of the judges instructions to him. But he's rich and powerful and (more importantly) he WANTS to have a fight with the court over sideshow issues to cause chaos and confusion (and keep up fundraising), so don't expect the court to rise to his trolling and punish him.
@w7voa Translation: He doesn't like that the DC judge isn't going for his bullshit and so he would like to choose his own judge.
@w7voa And what does NEEN mean?
@w7voa
I can only imagine how his follower’s heads would explode if Biden talked like that about any city in america.
@w7voa why is he not in jail?
@w7voa I think their public workshopping of their defenses is kind of helpful, really....
@w7voa man does Trump have bad lawyers

@w7voa

"He sounded like a farmer with terminal cancer, trying to borrow against next year's crop."

-- Hunter S. Thompson

@w7voa … Dear lawyer for Trump, ok but can you opine on whether a technical violation of the Constitution is a disqualification for holding the office of President?

@reiterator @w7voa
"There's no enforcement clause or penalty for violating the Presidential Oath of Office, so it's totally fine." -TrumpLawyer

@w7voa
Someone needs to dust up on what "corrupt purpose" can mean

@w7voa

Someone is going to end this whole thing without their law license.

@w7voa

With lawyers like that who needs enemies.
WTAF?

@w7voa Wait, what? Violating the Constitution od the United States somehow doesn't constitute a violation of law?
