the world is on fire and Jeep just introduced a 19-foot long vehicle with a built-in mini fridge that gets 16 miles to the gallon

2023 Grand Wagoneer L Series III: How Big Is Too Big?

With oversize dimensions of historic proportions, this luxury liner of an SUV is easy to pilot on the open highway but not as suitable for city traffic or other tight spots, writes Dan Neil

@mimsical so many people just happy to watch the world burn while they have their big trucks and SUVs. It's just sad.

Years ago I was visiting a friend and we went out in her Hummer she knew I hated, and she told me I would just have to "deal". Hope she enjoyed "dealing" with the month long summer in Phoenix where she lives of 110 plus days. She helped cause it after all.

I know it's mostly agriculture and oil companies and industrial pollution that cause it, but we're not helping.

@darwinwoodka @mimsical Yeah people excusing themselves because big companies are the biggest polluters is hypocritical asf. Want to change the world? Change yourself first.
@mimsical I walk by the local park where children are having a soccer practice… I count 5 parents in the parking lot watching from inside their running cars.

@skotchygut @mimsical

I always hated those kind of parents when I coached. Then it's "Why isn't my kid playing more?" during the games. Because your kid is standing there looking at cars driving by because they're more interested in them than the game, you morons.

@darwinwoodka @mimsical “I’ll do anything for my child’s future as long as I doesn’t inconvenience me in the slightest”
@skotchygut @mimsical I also ran the league, and it was great fun when the rich parents were all "but why can't my kid play with six of their rich friends instead of the kids from the poor side of town?" Ugh. Go play in the pay to play league instead of the city league, clowns.
@mimsical With the "L Series III trim" it's a bit over 3 metric tons. Physics isn't my strong point, but that thing is going to make a massive mess if/when it hits something at a reasonable speed.
@mimsical You’ll be living in that and keeping your food in the mini fridge while evacuating from wildfires, hurricane storm surges and rising sea levels. The 16 mpg will actually be worse while sitting in interstate gridlock in the evacuation routes because no one listens to early warnings, just like they didn’t listen to early climate change warnings.
@mimsical That seems bad but by next year there will be a Hellcat Redeye Demon TRX version with 1100 horsepower.
@mimsical ...you have to have a place to hide from the fires?

@mimsical The only silver lining to this (having fallen down a rabbit hole on Jeep/Dodge's roadmap after reading the article) is the inline 6 Hurricane twin turbo engine that's in this is 1) more fuel efficient than the standard 6.4L V8 in the base model 2) the first step towards I4/I6 hybrid engines.

As the last holdout big engine muscle car company, its hard to reverse the ship overnight. (I'd totes get a Hornet PHEV)

Having said that, I still wonder what they were thinking with this.

@tezoatlipoca @mimsical

I see one billionaire's kid walking to school in Kirkland, WA getting killed by another billionaire driving this thing and Jeep announces they are putting an end to production due to lack of sales.

@mimsical agree with the disgusting nature of such an excessive vehicle

But also the ‘normal’ lol size version of the GW has been a failure. FCA tops lists of cars that are not selling right now, with most experts saying they are way overpriced. And they bring this ultra-expensive one out.

Lastly, it’s the least attractive large SUV by a mile

@mimsical that doesn't even look like a jeep, it's just an ugly bedless truck

@mimsical well, when we’ve completely given our world over to the automobile, at least survivors will have somewhere to live.

What a f**king monstrosity. Who allows shite like that to be actually built and certified for use?

@mimsical We have a technology that will let it get 21 miles to the gallon, using hydrogen.🤠
@mimsical Nearly double the mpg of a Buggatti. #eattherich

@mimsical List price in the U.S.: $95,440.

There are multiple ways the executives at Chrysler-Fiat are disconnected from reality.

@mimsical @lisamelton Jeep has cornered the market for hobbyist undertakers.

This is the Canyonero song from Season 9 Episode 15 of the Simpsons, The Last Temptation of Krust.

@mimsical honestly surprised it's 16, impressive for something that preposterously enormous
@mimsical
Another rust bucket from Jeep., I was in automobiles for 40 years .Jeeps had the worst resale of any vehicle.
@mimsical The next phase of America's obsession with massive tank-like vehicles. First it was the cars, then it was the crossovers, then it was the compact SUVs, then it was the mid sized SUVs, then it started to become the body-on-frame Truck SUVs and now we're approaching just driving the M1 Abrams to work.
@mimsical
Jeep like many other manufacturers do business. They will stop selling these massive monsters when Americans stop buying them? Change comes from the bottom, from us consumers ... Let's stop being hypocrites.
@mimsical wow. But I drove a regular old work pickup truck that gets worse mileage so that result seems impressive.
@mimsical Shamefully disgusting! Idiots like these make our whole species look bad.
@mimsical We'll all be living in them soon enough, and fighting over the gasoline to keep them moving.
@mimsical
And the purchasers will whine about the price of gas and demand more drilling
@mimsical I’m actually surprised it even gets 16
@mimsical I feel like the kind of person who looks at this and thinks "this is a useful vehicle for me to have, a person who lives in a society with other people" shouldn't be allowed to own a car
@mimsical That’s perfect after a zombie apocalypse after society breaks down due to catastrophic changes…wait‽ 😂
@mimsical ...compact that and you have your next station wagon...😂
Way too over priced...
@mimsical Emotional Support Vehicle. You don't want something like this if you are otherwise OK.
@mimsical I can’t wait to openly mock anyone dumb enough to buy that thing. Extra large vehicles that are not necessary tell me their owners have some kind of a cluster B personality disorder.
@mimsical I need one that is 22yards long.
@mimsical
translation for people with better units: about 7 km/l, or 14 l / 100 km 🤢
@mimsical The sort of people who would buy a vehicle like that probably aren't concerned with the rest of the world.
@mimsical …and is the fugliest piece of crappy vehicle known to mankind.
@mimsical That has a bit less kerb appeal than a chemical toilet on the third day of a summer rock festival
