[NAME AVAILABLE ON REQUEST FROM COMPANIES HOUSE] - Free company information from Companies House including registered office address, filing history, accounts, annual return, officers, charges, business activity

@nixCraft ah, the infamous Bobby Tables company.
@nixCraft Little Bobby Tables has his own company now, they grew up so fast 😍
@nixCraft great post from the "owner" of the company: "No, I didn't try to break Companies House"
No, I didn't try to break Companies House

I have a tendency to take a joke too far. The most recent example of this would be yesterday in IRC, where I was discussing with a few friends what I should name my new company. Being a business to business consultancy, and mostly a one-man operation, the name isn’t that important, but I wanted something with a bit of personality. And I asked: <Mopman> Is there anything stopping me from registering ; DROP TABLE "Companies";-- Ltd as a company name?

@macleod @nixCraft  sad that this headline appears to contain “forced to change name” and not “thanked for benevolently reminding everyone why it’s important to sanitize your inputs”

@nixCraft

Bobby was not available to do this earlier?

@SpaceLifeForm @nixCraft Bobby had some extra time during the pandemic.
@nixCraft There was one that actually worked - while Companies House sanitized the data when processing it a number of 3rd parties who scraped the public data didn't. It was renamed to "That company who's previous name included a cross site scripting malware"
@nixCraft I had to check, but oh my god it's real! 😆

@nixCraft Failure to get the SQL-injection right? Or just a silly joke? 🤔
@nixCraft The British government is currently in the process of passing a bill to make this illegal in apparently direct response to this exact company https://decoded.legal/blog/2022/09/proposal-no-computer-code-in-company-names

@mcc @nixCraft Instead of penalizing the negligence that made it possible in the first place.

As expected of the British government, I guess.
