I really missed the sound of a #Mac booting from DVD... 😁

#iMac #CoreDuo #32BitEFI

Finally installing @elementary OS 7!

Well, that was not working out well. DVD device is broken apparently.
So, we are at this point again: I just love the @debian project for still providing 32 bit installation images. Including the Radeon firmware makes installing #Linux the most convenient way in this case. Oh, and since it‘s for my daughter, it‘s #Skolelinux!

Just don‘t install using EFI bootloader, this will break your graphics driver. Use legacy MBR boot.

TIL, again. #2006 #imac #CoreDuo #Debian #32bitEFI

And on the second try the installer just does something (the same?) without asking? Is this a bug or meant to be a feature…?
Since this did not work out, I'm going to give it a new try: Use the DVD prepared to do legacy boot (by having removed the EFI boot sector), but use an iBook as a DVD drive via Firewire target mode to hopefully have a DVD drive that's still functional. This way I can use the install medium I need for this machine (iMac with 32 bit EFI) and it will install with legacy/MBR boot as well, which is important, because it's the only way the AMD GPU drivers are going to work on that machine.
Just need to wait for the Firewire 400 cable to arrive. 😁
Ok, left that path. It‘s unbelievable how clean, well sorted and beautiful #Mac OS X 10.6 #SnowLeopard looks - even when using a 17 years old display. 😳😍
