As many of you know, the third party iPhone/iPad app Metatext is no longer being maintained as the lead developer had health issues. However, there is now a community-maintained version of the app called Feditext. You can follow the latest news about it at:

➡️ @Feditext

It's not yet in the Apple app store, but it is currently being tested through Test Flight.

Techy people can see the source code of the project at https://github.com/feditext/feditext

@feditips thank you for the shout out! we're excited to keep the Metatext project going forward.

and we support more than just Mastodon: Feditext also works with extended Mastodon APIs in forks like Glitch, and Mastodon-compatible APIs in GotoSocial, Firefish, and Akkoma, including features such as emoji reactions. in the future, we plan to support rich text post authoring, local-only posts, and native quote posts whenever the user's instance does.
@Feditext @feditips sorry if this is a dumb question, but does that include CalKey?

@Willow @Feditext

Calckey has changed its name to Firefish.

@Willow @feditips not a dumb question. Calckey basically didn't have usable Mastodon API support until around the time it rebranded to Firefish, so it's possible that some Calckey servers will work with Feditext, but i expect most of them have migrated to Firefish by now, and i don't test against old Calckey servers.

however, in your case, we're not really talking about Calckey any more, since blahaj.zone actually runs the Hajkey development fork, and the Hajkey devs will be basing future releases on Iceshrimp, which is a hard fork of Firefish. if Iceshrimp plans on continuing to support Mastodon API clients, either by merging code from Firefish or on their own, we'll try to support Iceshrimp as well.

one thing we *don't* plan on doing is supporting the Misskey native API common to Misskey, Calckey, Firefish, Iceshrimp, etc. as this would involve massive changes to Feditext and take time away from other work, so we need servers to present a Mastodon-compatible API.

i'm happy to work with Iceshrimp and Hajkey devs to test and improve their Mastodon compatibility API.
