The National party is just a landlord and a couple of roads in a trench coat
Honestly though can you think of a more boring, uninspired, and useless policy than MORE ROADS
“Build it and they will come” wasn’t just a movie quote, it’s infrastructure advice

Build more roads? Get more car traffic
Build more light rail? Get more light rail passengers (fewer personal vehicles)
Build more safe cycling infrastructure? Get more cyclists (fewer personal vehicles)
Make other public transport more convenient, cheaper and accessible? Get more people using it!

It’s not fucking brain surgery

@drjulie_b in the UK we had a brilliant rail system! It carried the mass of people, carried large & medium sized packages to local stations here it was delivered that day!
We use them as walks now!
The right wing government bought a Canadian doctor to rationalise it he butchered it!
It saved tax money the tax money NOT paid by the rich!
@PabloMartini I hate the rich and the right wingers 😡 they’re why we can’t have nice things
@drjulie_b Roads efficiently deliver cars to chokepoints, creating more traffic. I have no idea why that seems to be so counter intuitive to people, but I hate it.
@xgranade I don’t understand why it’s difficult to grasp that more roads = more traffic though. Is it really that counterintuitive to most?
@drjulie_b but if we subsidise big cars we make our voter AND our sponsors happy while these antidemocratic laws of nature don't even compromise!
@drjulie_b Even Los Angeles, California had an extended light rail or trolley system back in the 1930’s. As I understand it, the LA rail company was bought by General Motors after WWII and dismantled so they could sell more cars. Some of the former rail lines have been converted back to light rail in the 21st century, but it is too late to fully reverse the extreme amount of urban and suburban development built around cars in the last 80 years.
