This is my experience of British immigrants in Spain who voted for #Brexit. People with no capacity for critical thinking. They voted for Brexit "because of the immigrants". Now they themselves lost their EU privileges, duh!

They were told both lies AND the truth & they chose the lies. Because they're idiots.

On the plus side EU has become an even nicer place to be because it's now less likely that you'll hear people like Greg from Winchester sounding off about the immigrants in UK.

Specifically, here’s the pamphlet sent to every, single home in UK. It’s pretty clear that some benefits to Brits are only available by remaining in EU. Like the freedom to live in any EU country.

Idiots chose to ignore this.

#brexit

@marcusjenkins a case of „having the cake and eating it too“

@marcusjenkins along the same lines, there was a Singaporean I spoke to and he complained about all the migrants in Singapore. He'd moved to Melbourne to get away from them. I said, so you became the migrant.

He didn't appreciate that. He couldn't see the irony.

@skribe @marcusjenkins particularly ironic as Singapore self-declares as multicultural, multiracial, and multireligious.
Being Singaporean is not about ethnicity, language or culture, but simply a passport .

@peterbrown @marcusjenkins that's the official line, yes. Unfortunately Singaporean Indians are quite often told to 'go home' by their Chinese counterparts. There's also a strict racial quota system here for migrants that wish to become citizens.

Basically there's a bunch of racism that goes unreported because it has been "normalised".

@marcusjenkins To protect their wealth, I guess. They just did not see that their wealth depended on cheap labour and free trade.
@marcusjenkins they are that stupid they call themselves ‘expats’ and assume that’s not just another word for immigrant!
@marcusjenkins that's exactly it. They greet and cry that they were "lied to". No, they were not. They chose to discount any argument that didn't fit their own world view that THEY are somehow exceptional. No sympathy atall.
@marcusjenkins
These two never saw themselves as "immigrants" but rather "expats".
@marcusjenkins The willfully bought that face eating bacteria (brexit) but are now upset that I ate them
@marcusjenkins turns out the English Channel is a great way to keep stupid people out of the EU and smart people in it.
@marcusjenkins May the leopards continue eating their faces.
@marcusjenkins It's because of idiots like them, I'm no longer able to live my dream of retiring to the land of my family.
@marcusjenkins and I don't know about Italy, but in Spain they had plenty of time to get permanent visas. And yet some are complaining, they are being deported because they didn't get it.

@fuegon Yeah, don’t get me started on this one. Pre #Brexit there were LOADS of Brits living in Spain with zero, I mean ZERO regard to Spanish laws and procedures. Despite being in Spain for years & years

Driving around in cars with UK plates
Not registering as resident nor on the census list
Not doing Spanish tax returns
Not learning even a word of Spanish
Driving on UK driving licenses
Using EHIC (emergency)health card for chronic complaints

Etc., etc., etc.

@marcusjenkins A £13,000 house? Is that a typo?

@nloveladyallen Quite probably not. In Spain and Italy there a LOT of old houses in need of work at those kind of prices. Usually in some inland town / village in some of the poorer regions.

Very much buyer beware, though. Many are in old, narrow streets with near-impossible access for the crane, building materials lorry, concrete lorry that you will almost certainly need to repair the roof. Don’t ask me how I know, but, yeah, I know.

@nloveladyallen Oh, and any major building work, like a new roof, or repairing internal floors, needs an architect’s plan and need to comply with today’s building codes (in Spain). This means that previously low ceilings now need to be raised to at least 2.5m high. Again, don’t ask me how I know, but I know.

Also beware local regulations to maintain the aesthetic of historic neighbourhoods.

So your £15k bargain can often turn into a bit of a nightmare.

@marcusjenkins it's a little bit mean, because I seriously wish for the United Kingdom to join the EU again. There were another half of the people who did know the facts and wanted to stay. I think it's very sad they got cut off and many people are now suffering.
So I hope at one point Britain can correct that mistake.
@marcusjenkins I know, I do understand. There are many racists. But the campaigns promised the Exiteers they will be number one, like back then.
When I was in the UK visiting, I saw all these sculptures and reminders about the big empire. Like a conpass pointing to canada, australia and such. If you are surrounded by that daily and someone tells you we will be like this again then stupid people will vote for that, because they want to believe.
@marcusjenkins actually the people who wanted to exit. The remainers were the good guys, sorry for that mixed up
@bookstardust @marcusjenkins Well forgive me if I don't have any sympathy for people who want an empire and to be colonisers.
@ariaflame @marcusjenkins I don't either, but I have a lot of empathy for the other 50% (especially young people) who did vote to remain and lost by 2% of votes. And by those who realized their mistake and suffer now because of poverty.
@bookstardust It would have probably been a whole load more effective if, instead of "the government says…" rather "so-so-so 3rd rate, tacky celebrity from a recent reality TV show says…"
@marcusjenkins I have zero sympathy, I hope they lose everything, the hurt they caused my friends with the settled status program scrutinising their lives should not be forgiven.
@marcusjenkins hmmmm guess he didn't think much before voting

@marcusjenkins

You're wrong about one thing. They were told lies and the truth and they believed the lies, not because they're idiots, it's because they're racist.

@marcusjenkins who does he feel betrayed by? His own mind?
@marcusjenkins what a fucking tool that guy is
@marcusjenkins I met an Italian immigrant to England who was going to vote for Brexit. I still did not understand his thinking.

@marcusjenkins
When it's about them living abroad they're "expats". When it's other nationalities living in the UK they're "immigrants".

In France the number of British immigrants who voted Brexit, but then tried to get an Irish passport, lied to French authorities to get a permanent resident permit when they weren't, and complained endlessly about how the EU was treating them unfairly, is unbelievable.

@marcusjenkins
They willingly believed lies because they thought they were exceptions. How many times did I hear "they won't kick us out they need our money".

I have nothing against immigrants. I like the fact that within the EU you can go and live wherever you like. It's great to meet new people and understand new cultures. I lived 16 years in the UK as an immigrant.

But if you vote against that system because you don't like foreigners, don't expect to continue benefiting from it.

@marcusjenkins These people absolutely baffle me.

@marcusjenkins Filed under: Play stupid games, win stupid prices.

And since they hate immigrants I think Italy is just doing them a service.

@marcusjenkins every time I read something like this I smile inside.

In the words of some kid playing a videogame.

GET SHIT ON.
