Car culture is the narrative that there is no alternative to filling streets with cars.

Tring-tring not ding-ding.

I make my own wine, beer, mead, cider & blaand, sometimes I post about it.

I make videos of some of my cycling adventures, they are often local to east & south-east London.

80 years ago, the UN General Assembly started with a dream: to maintain peace and security in the world.

The good?
Eight decades without World War III.

Where do we stand today?
It’s complicated.

But in a world of 8 billion people, it’s the only room where everyone gets a seat.

80 years ago, we chose dialogue over force.
Today, we must choose it again.

Isn't it boring working in IT?
Well, I like that it has a cultural history, not many jobs come with that. A recent example I dug up is Network Working Group RFC2100 from 1st April 1997, it's in the form of a funny poem and deals with the indecision faced by IT admins when naming computers. https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc2100.html

Good to see reporting on cycling without the negativity you find in the UK.

Setting up a new TV for my mum, wondering again why *everything* has to be such bullshit these days.

No, I don't want the TV to monitor my voice.

No, I don't want the TV to monitor my viewing habits.

No, I don't want to create an account with the TV manufacturer.

No, I don't want motion smoothing or AI noise reduction or whatever it is that's making the folks in the background of this RTE news report look like a gouache painting.

I JUST want a television ffs.

Write to Louise Haigh and urge her to scrap the roads programme left by the previous government and instead focus on maintenance, public transport and active travel.

Help get unaffordable and outdated roads scrapped!

Since Labour formed the government in July, it has wasted no time in setting the wheels in motion for change. However, since Rachel Reeves announced a Β£22bn financial black hole and the need for swingeing cuts, things have speeded up. She asked Transport Secretary Louise Haigh to hold a review to look at "the previous government’s transport commitments." We now need your help to get the Conservative's national roads programme scrapped? There are many road schemes such as the Β£10bn Lower Thames Crossing, Β£1.5bn A66 Northern Trans-Pennine, A46 Newark Bypass, that have weak economic cases and should not pass the review. Other schemes, such as the A57, the A47 schemes, A38 Derby Junctions appear to have stronger economic cases, but should also be cancelled. Aside from the fact that any economic assessment is likely to be years out of date, the data used in the modelling is not fit for purpose in a climate and ecological emergency. The review will inform the Budget which is happening in October. Therefore any letters to Louise Haigh, asking her to scrap new road schemes to address the budget deficit, will need to be sent soon. As well as making savings, also ask her to ensure that some of the money is invested in public transport, to grow the economy and increase opportunity. Many thanks, Becca, Chris & Nisha Transport Action Network
