Are there any good streaming alternatives to Twitch? We want to stream the development of our games, but we don't want ads to be played to our viewers. #gamedev #twitch #streaming #privacy #ads
@hiddenpeopleclub You're not asking for much, are you? Haha. I know there are ads on Youtube. But given your options, it's the less intrusive and problematic, both in terms of reach and who you'd be supporting.
@strateture how is youtube better than twitch in that regard?
@hiddenpeopleclub Ads on Youtube are shorter and in many cases closable after, what is it, 5 seconds I think. On Twitch one or multiple non-clsoable ads can run for 30 seconds to 3 minutes. It all depends on available ads and streamer settings.

@strateture I see, thanks for the heads up, we'll setup multicast to YouTube and see how that goes.

If I don't monetize, does google still show ads in youtube? 🤔

@hiddenpeopleclub Yes and no. While they reserve the right to do so, they don't always do. According to some, it's a downside if they do. I always wrote it off as me paying a fee for hosting or something. But that aside, they're the lesser of two evils when it comes to ads. 🙂
@hiddenpeopleclub I only know #owncast (https://owncast.online/), which is open source, but if you have no user base, it will be hard to get viewers without a platform of a multi-billion-dollar-company.
