“If I had to describe the Barbie movie in three words, it would be: Men ruin everything.”

— My daughter (16)

@siracusa That sounds like a ringing endorsement 😄. You can tell her I was sold before but when I do get a chance to see it those words will be in the back of my mind.
@siracusa sounds like a smart lady
@siracusa I think that applies to just about everything.
@siracusa saw it last night, without foreknowledge of plot, in my role as Girl Dad. Really enjoyable... denouement of Incell/bro culture. Only terrible men would be offended by this movie. 2 thumbs up. Will be a conversation movie for days to come.
@MGKatz036 @siracusa Thanks for your feedback! I’m heading to see Oppenheimer shortly!
@siracusa perhaps she would enjoy this Alexandra Petri column (wapo gift link): https://wapo.st/3Dqoz2c
The Barbie movie, according to conservative criticism

Here is how I think it goes, based on online complaints!

The Washington Post
@siracusa I feel like the primary problem is horses.
@marius @siracusa when I found out that the patriarchy wasn’t just about horses, I lost interest
@marius @siracusa I’ve said that for years now.
@siracusa I mean, she’s not wrong
@siracusa Wise beyond her years.
@siracusa Haven't seen the movie but it's a kids movie right? I don't get why people would care enough to be offended by it.
@akz I haven’t seen it, but I don’t think it’s aimed at kids.
@akz @siracusa It is definitely not a kids movie. Nothing particularly raunchy or anything. Just not aimed at kids.
@akz @siracusa
Didn’t look like a kids movie from the preview. At least not to me. That said, even if it was, that’s never stopped the Right. Given their obsession with “protecting” children it’d make even more sense. And actually, they probably assume it is a kids movie. So, yeah, it makes perfect sense.
@siracusa seems like solid advice; at least to the first principle
@siracusa what’s her review on Oppenheimer???

@siracusa

This may get me some flack, but I’d would rephrase as “Selfish, privileged, entitled men ruin everything.”

Men on their own don’t ruin anything, just like women don’t ruin anything, it’s our attitudes and actions which do.

I think that the narrative of men are bad by default is a disservice and distracting us from the real issues of society. Priviliged, selfish, entitled people (who happen to be overwhelmingly older white men) ruin everything.

@siracusa I say this as an extremely privileged, white, male, who is doing my damdest to break that narrative and be an ally whenever and however I can. I have so much to learn, a make many, many mistakes, but I am learning and trying to be better than my predecessors.
@siracusa
Your daughter is a wise woman.
@siracusa of course there's a man in the replies saying "not all men." 🤡 And why? Because "men ruin everything." 🥴
@siracusa
Honestly, as a guy, it feels more and more like the majority of men are snowflake trash who can’t handle the complexity of reality, and I’ve just been lucky in meeting and befriending members of the minority of guys who aren’t bigoted misogynistic trash.
