I want to go to there.
I just realized I can go there… in my studio. Just need a snow iMac and I would complete the screenshot in real life.
@ismh sounds like a challenge
@ismh Related: When do we as nerds start cosplaying the Steve Jobs WWDC presentations? 😂
@ismh oh man. I thought they only sold the white iMac as an eMac.
@LoganHighlen They sold “Snow” iMacs for quite a while! They have some transparency and the eMacs are solid white.
@ismh I have everything except the servers, but they look the same as the quicksilver anyway.
@ismh that iBook is the first computer I bought with my own money. Still have it

@mccllstr
Same, I still have mine as well. It all works beside the battery. :)

@ismh

@ismh surprised the powermac started at a lower price point than the PowerBook.
@ismh Ooooo, the widescreen ‘lampshade’ iMac. I had one of those at my university desk in graduate school, and it remains to this day my favourite design of iMac (also had my own personal iBook of that era too!)
@ismh Here we go, knew I had this photo ... the widescreen lampshade iMac, my G4 iBook, and if you look just to the right of the iBook, there's a wee original iPod Mini :)
@sarahhbickerton wow! Never expected to see a photo like this with Aotearoa in the background!
@nat This is from 2007, from my office in the University of Illinois at Chicago where I was doing grad school. Being a kiwi I just had to have a map of Aotearoa up on the wall, it's the law as an ex-pat ;)

@sarahhbickerton @ismh I had the smaller iLamp at Transmeta and I'm bitter than I didn't negotiate for it to become mine. Of note, the DVD-ROM drive had stopped for no reason.

I still hold it to have been Apple's most beautiful product.

@ismh PowerBook gets Myriad while everything else is stuck with Garamond
@ismh That's another post today that reminds me of my time in Memphis. I helped open up the Saddle Creek store in the fall of 2001. And not long after some friends and I started the MeDiA Co-op that ran out of First Congo in Cooper Young. We had at least 4 of those Macs in use there. Good times. 🤓

@ismh Seeing this immediately made me think of driving 1.5 hours to just hang out in the store and theater at the Tysons Corner R010 store around Christmas 2001.

I miss that era.

@ismh When that turn of the century nostalgia hits hard…
@ismh wait wait wait wait, they did the “keep the older model as the cheap one” strategy with the 1st gen iMac? Man I have no recollection of that
@ismh interesting that prices have mostly held steady over the years!
@ismh Interesting to see Myriad slowly taking over Garamond, too.
@mwichary @ismh haha, especially since Garamond is so trendy rn
@ismh I know it's just "the model prior" but seems funny to see the G3 and G4 iMac both on sale at the same time.
@ismh we didn’t know it at the time but it was an amazing time period to live through tech wise.
@ismh The best part about it is we _knew_ how good we had it back then. Nothing else looked like Apple hardware and Mac OS X was just blooming. And I had the only Mac at my office 😆
@ismh it took so long for Myriad to work its way through the product line, such a divisive issue at the time
@ismh god that G4 is soo cheap for a tower mac..
@ismh Nope. I like my M1max MBP with its amazing battery life and not melting under load
@ismh that was pretty much the lineup when I started as an Apple employee.
@Eggfreckles @ismh and that was pretty much the lineup when I left as an Apple employee.
@ismh this brings up so much nostalgia! Can I ask where you got the screenshot? Would love a high res version of this somehow
@ismh I used to live in that neighborhood!
@ismh Looking at that image, specifically the iMac and iBook, caused a genuine visceral reaction in me. I spent so long reading those pages of their website, longing to own either one when I was a poor student. That’s what I love about retro tech. For me it brings back feelings and memories, as strongly as songs or smells can. Transporting me back in time. Love it!
@ismh My memory of that time is that the hardware was great but it was early days for OSX so loads of compatibility issues, and switching between OS9 and X. Lots of fiddling needed and we still weren’t really sure that Apple would survive. I’ve been a Mac user since 1994 and I really think the best time to be a Mac user is now.
@ismh it’s so fun seeing the entire family together.
@ismh My favorite iMac design. Loved my G4 tower though.
@ismh It's been a while since it was ok to have dark displays on product shots!
@ismh such a cool design era, I loved the white “kidney” tables at the Apple Stores around that same time.
