#COVID19 status check for the fedi community.

3 and a half years into this and as best as you know you are:

Boost for reach, please.

Still not infected and still cautious
39.9%
Already infected, but still cautious
31.8%
Infected, but not cautious
16.2%
Not infected, not cautious
12.1%
Poll ended at .

Of course not expecting this to reflect reality on the streets.

If you are in the fediverse you are already part of a small self selected minority.

But I suspect that most of the crowd (within my reach at least) is covid cautious regardless of infection status.

@pezmico , still surprised by the outcome so far.

@Antigrav I know, me too!

Also who are these Not infected Not cautious people!?

They need to get themselves to a lab to make The Cure™... 🔬👩🏻‍🔬🧪

(or most likely are just asymptomatic cases)

@pezmico
@Antigrav
Me. Figured I should be honest. Was the last person still masking at work, up until May.

@pezmico @Antigrav pretty sure I have been exposed multiple times, used to be extremely cautious, but as I read everything and believe the data, I got #Novavax for my last 3 boosters, and tell everyone at any opportunity to get all their boosters of any protein vaccine, they are much better than the mRNA vaccines for this type of virus, the data is pretty clear now. Unfortunately most people just take in the surface info and what their local public health is telling them, which in most Western countries has been disastrous.

So yeah technically I'm "not cautious" now because I believe (possibly erroneously, but my N=1 data is so far holding out) that I'm pretty protected, but I point people to the labs with The Cure™️

If you're still #COVID19 cautious, you consider you are:
Extremely careful at all times.
22.9%
Mostly careful, with a few slips.
43.5%
Sometimes careful.
23.1%
Very little or no, but I want a button too.
10.6%

@pezmico
Great questions! Will be interested in the results. Thanks 😊
@pezmico it’s hard to answer this without first understanding what you think of as careful. Testing before meeting with people? Wearing a respirator indoors everywhere (and which kind)? Wearing one outdoors too? Staying at home by default and only going out when necessary?

@IPEdmonton this is true but I want it to be vague so it is a self assessment.

I know it means different things for different people. And that argument would probably never be settled if we were to start it.

So in this extremely accurate and scientific poll all I intend to know is if you can look at yourself in the mirror and say "Yes I am being as careful as I can be."

@pezmico okay! I answered based on interpreting the top option as “Yes I am being as careful as I need to be to keep my household safe, based on what I know from the research evidence (and sometimes more careful than that, based on how much I feel like being around people who have stopped trying not to get COVID)” 😆
@pezmico @trendless
I let myself have a root canal, as a treat
@sabik @trendless @pezmico this is not a slip up. This is a medical necessity
@trendless @sabik @pezmico oh friend, my life often felt like this even before the pandemic.

@pezmico Vaccinated with original vaccine then two updated boosters, FFP3 masked everywhere except for a worksite where I was only in contact with one coworker.

After Delta punched thru the vaccine immunity and my regularly fantastic immune system, almost killed me and made my pre-diabetic partner vomit uncontrollably for two days, gave me a heart attack & POTS, my coworker bragged about going out drinking every night during restrictions.

Now I mask in crowds & autumn thru spring.

@pezmico Why do people scream about government conspiracies for two years and then on the third year believe the government is telling them the truth when they say COVID is “over”?

@pezmico

I have a bit of a problem with ‘slips’ … I don’t ever ‘slip’ the same way I never accidentally leave the house without pants. On the occasions when I have made a decision to take a higher risk for the sake of participating in an event/occasion, it was a decision not a ‘slip’.

@pezmico as a trumpet player I must make a few concessions to mask wearing. I also enrolled my kids in swim lessons this summer because I had to weigh their chances of catching covid vs a future where they potentially drown due to not knowing how to swim
@pezmico other than that… I’m still wearing masks indoors everywhere and not eating inside. However I’m really the only one left everywhere I go so it feels futile a lot of the time. It seems like a given that the govt expects us all to be infected every 8-12 months no matter what we do

@pezmico

I've yet to be infected. Quintuple-vaxxed and don't go out very often. When I do I always carry a mask, but at this point I only put it on when required or in healthcare settings.

@pezmico somewhere between extremely and mostly careful. It's more making what I think are reasonable decisions and sticking with them. So masks inside but mostly not outside. Very careful at conventions and such, but I go. I make rules and follow them, but the extremely careful do more and the mostly careful do less.

@pezmico Slips being "I live in a building with people that claim to be careful but aren't paranoid-enough (using shitty cloth masks instead of proper respirators, for example)".

I don't go out and I use HEPA air purifiers 24/7, I can't actually do much more without winning the lottery and acquiring a fully isolated space for myself.

@pezmico Team 23%! Most fun year of my 20s too coincidentally
@pezmico got sick “before the pandemic”. All the boosters.

@TransitBiker @pezmico My wife is convinced that she got it before the pandemic hit also. She had a week where she felt horrible and all of her symptoms at the time match up with what COVID presents.

Apart from that, no confirmed infections here and I'm still masking up everywhere.

@TechyDad @pezmico yeah. I still have long Covid. Initial infection was really bad.
@pezmico still cautious bc of my immunocompromised partner and my own health.
Only time I got infected was bc of in person attendance on conference lat year where almost no-one masked and I'm still mad about it.
Got a nice flareup of my asthma thanks to this 🙃
@pezmico I am in the fish and chip shop right now. And I'm just due for a shave because mask efficacy drops off around 4mm stubble length.
@stephen @pezmico Visited my local Chippie all masked up a few days ago. There were 3 retired blokes waiting and none of them were masked 😞

@firehorsemia @stephen Same but today. Only maskers were my whānau.

But the chippie here never let people back inside so I guess they count as covid cautious?

They still operate behind plexiglass on the door and you wait outside for your order.

@pezmico @stephen They are definitely more cautious than my local chippie
@pezmico Define "cautious." For me, it is still masking in sketchy places like gyms and aircraft but otherwise mask free. Never tested positive and all the vaccine I could take.
@mdfranz
Then that's it. In the context of this question it's not what I define as cautious but whether you think of yourself as cautious.

@pezmico The one time my family and I were not cautious, we all got Covid.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@pezmico caught it once, extra cautious now. I don't even answer the door without a mask any more
@pezmico not infected, not cautious, but Covid really isn’t much of an issue here in Denmark. Infectiom rates are very low.

@pezmico my antivax sister bought it into the house. :/ i've got three vaccinations and mask everywhere and her goddamn conservative bullshit made me get it.

fortunately i didn't get it as bad as she did.

@pezmico I base things on the current wastewater readings for my town. Here's the graph as of last week, virus level is thankfully quite low. Also, I keep in mind that this is the virus level with people taking almost no precautions at all. It appears the virus is lacking ability to make a big run right now, even with a lot of freedom of movement. First graph is the past year, second is the past 3 years. @pezmico Vacc'd & double boosted, still testing and wearing a mask if I feel sick. Also still wear a mask in all medical settings and on public transport. Not infected once, and hope it never happens...

@pezmico question: does taking yearly vaccines w a population who's vaccine rate is >85% cautious or not?

Edit: I answered the last option, that said I was working from home every day and was very cautious going out until my second dosage back in 2020 and 2021.

@pezmico I have covid for the 1st time right now. We've been very cautious for the most part but my husband thinks he got it from a job interview where he didn't mask. 😕
@pezmico Not infected, to the best of my knowledge, still masking and being as isolated as I can.

@pezmico

I made until April this year when my mom had surgery. No masking by hospital staff. We both got infected AT the hospital. I still mask when in public...

@pezmico Hello, (i don't speak very well in english).

Du coup, j'ai eu une fois le
#COVID19, mais je continue de faire attention, mais pas assez 😢
@pezmico I am not cautious after I got my two vaccine shots. I was cautious before I got the vaccine.
@pezmico I've given up being cautious. It drove me to a mental health crisis to keep being careful; I've had every vaccine the NHS has offered and will keep taking any that are but I can't afford to keep being more careful than that and retain my sanity
@pezmico wrong box ticked, sorry should’ve been Still not infected and still cautious not the bottom one!
@pezmico A definition of cautious would be nice though, since some places have high vaccination rates, so not as much caution is needed.

@pezmico I've had four doses of vaccine, and been infected twice, and I still don't want to get it again!

@pezmico Or infected unaware, not yet fucked by long-COVID and still cautious.

Knowing whether one had a fully asymptomatic infection is difficult.

@pezmico I would say a relatively cautious but it's hard not to be cautious when I hardly go out already lol-

Regardless still getting all my vaccines and wearing a mask regularly.

@pezmico cautious not for myself (I've had covid twice plus 4 vaccines/boosters, so unlikely to get it anything more than very mildly now), but for others I may encounter, who may have had neither.

@pezmico We're both very high risk, my wife particularly so, and were taking precautions (some of them extreme, like disinfecting the post, shopping) pretty much before it became a Thing. I started masking either the 14th or 15th of March, 2020. 3 primary doses, now 3 boosters. We also have 2 flu jabs (adjuvated) per year.

But, most of all, we isolate. For me, 81 days in hospital this year were worrisome, but most of these in a single room, and masking (N99) when anyone present. Didn't stop me getting norovirus, and a Pseudomonas infection in hospitals, though.

Sure our luck will run out one day, though.

@pezmico Chose the third option but I'm not really sure whether that one or the second applies in my case.

Was infected, now I don't use masks but I take still some basic precautions. I always have hand sanitizer in my car and my home, and so on...
