#blackmastodon I need your wisdom and support.

I've had #locs since 1993. They're down to my behind in the back. I find the retwisting tedious. I can't easily afford a #loctician when I need one.

I also live with #depression & #anxiety
They're both controlled with #medication right now. But they make #selfcare tough.

I am feeling the urge to do #TheBigChop and cut off all my hair to start over.

If you have done #TheBigChop & loved it or regretted it, I need to hear from you.

@Skyliting I didn't do the big chop but my son did. He doesn't seem to have regretted it and he goes back and forth on how long he lets his hair grow now. Hair is just one expression of your identity. It does not define who you are and while locs can be spiritual antennae, if they become burdensome to you that is not helpful. I usually cut a foot off every couple of years to keep mine from becoming burdensome. Whatever decision you make, go forward without regret. You can always regrow

@fulanigirl I have trimmed them to mid back before when they started to get raggedy. I'm not sure where I want to go style wise if I cut my locs off.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and what you see of your son's

@Skyliting Our hair is so political, we sometimes forget it is just hair. I run between DC and NY and there are so many styles for natural hair now it is stunning. Take your time, check out what people are doing with hair. Any natural style will probably be good. It's more a question of the shape of your face and what is going to work for you.
