Of course if she was being nominated to the Supreme Court and her debts were suddenly paid off by some unknown party, that would be fine: https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2023/07/15/kemba-walden-nomination-cyber-director/
Personal debts said to scuttle nomination of Biden’s acting cyber director

The White House has said it won't nominate Kemba Walden to be national cyber director over personal debts. The rationale has stunned colleagues.

The Washington Post

@evacide large personal debt is sort of a big red flag on clearance approvals, no?

At least it was last time I went through one?

@jason @evacide as the article notes, she already has a clearance, and the concerns stated in the article are that her debt - which isn't described as excessive or unusual - would leave her open to criticism during confirmation hearings. So the White House is just going to take the coward's way out and not even try.
@womble oh I read most of the article but still was confused who had actually labeled the thing some kind of risk. I see now it’s just another Biden nomination being withdrawn because of cowardice. Welp.
