Hey folks! Can you recommend two folks I should follow?

Trying to liven up my timeline to ditch the bird app.

I'll start: I recommend @inquiline for πŸ”₯ #STS and environment content, and @mel_hogan for the best critical takes on "AI" and data.

RT so we can break outta our federated bubbles!

@davidthewid For more AI ethics stuff @timnitGebru and @emilymbender
@davidthewid let me know other interests you have and I'll try to help 😁
@nielsa geopolitics, political economic perspectives and research, memes, critical data studies, tech-critical activism, decolonial perspectives on tech

@davidthewid @nielsa

@mekkaokereke and @polotek are useful insider + Black perspectives on American tech

@davidthewid i find @aral a good connection to lots of tech issues. @pluralistic has been on here for ages, also tech things mostly.

@davidthewid @[email protected] @mel_hogan

If you're not following @lisamelton yet, your world is about to be rocked!

@TNLNYC @davidthewid @[email protected] @mel_hogan Thank you, as always, for the recommendation! πŸ’–
@lisamelton :) Lisa, who do you follow that you'd recommend?

@davidthewid Well, I follow over 7,000 people (which is still too few) so that's gonna be a looooong list. πŸ˜‚

But @talia_christine, @noondlyt and @dgoldsmith are big boosters like I am.

I find people like @mekkaokereke, @Teri_Kanefield, @futurebird and @LadyDragonfly endlessly fascinating.

For news I rely on @GottaLaff and @[email protected] a lot.

And this is just a fraction of the awesome people here. But does that help?

@lisamelton Aw thanks!
@futurebird You are very welcome! I actually find it difficult *not* to boost almost everything you write. πŸ˜‚

@lisamelton

⬆️ I would love to have a peek at your lists (just the titles).

I like the way your mind works (and always have).

@Tengrain I have dozens of lists and they're all poorly named. 🀣

But, hey, it works. Seriously, I'm not sure I could even do this Boost-O-Matticβ„’ thing without the Lists feature of Mastodon. I just wish the UI for managing them was better. But I'm a extreme user so the developers shouldn't listen to me. πŸ˜€

@lisamelton

I am a big fan of lists, too. It’s a blessing and a curse. When I follow someone new I try to find a home for them in a list, but... Well, you know. πŸ˜‰

@lisamelton keep up the great work -- you (and many of those you mention) are the heart and soul of my great Mastodon experience!
@dcreemer Will do and thank you so much! πŸ’–
@lisamelton
Woke up to this in my feed on a beautiful Sunday morning. Thank you, Lisa 😌 Now I'm off to catch up!

@davidthewid welcome! 😊

off the top of my head, i’ve found these folk great especially for trying to navigate the β€œAI” hype and data:

@mmitchell_ai
@timnitGebru
@emilymbender
@ct_bergstrom
@natematias

the markup do excellent work regarding privacy and biases in tech/data:

@themarkup

@davidthewid you might find the posts of @RuthMalan of interest for system architecture and technical leadership and interesting new music, @czds for a wide variety of political and technical topics, and @Cmastication for #rstats and other innovative things to do with a welding setup
@davidthewid @inquiline @mel_hogan I’ll follow you and you can follow me πŸ™‚

@davidthewid

ONLY two? Tough ask. Every single person I follow is interesting and cool. Seriously, Dear Readers, you wouldn't go wrong just following all my follows.

But if I can only pick two...

@Rose_On_Mars writes stories and games about feelings and monsters and kissing. If you're on Fedi, you'd probably like her stuff.

@comicsbyxan makes comics about catgirls and smashing fascism. You like the catgirls, eh? You like smashing the fascism, eh?

@davidthewid @Rose_On_Mars @comicsbyxan

(Dear Reader, if you're wondering "Why not me?" then please accept my very sincere apologies. Getting this down to just two was very difficult, and ultimately it was a very close race. If the wind had blown a bit differently, it could easily have been you.)

@davidthewid i like @ct_bergstrom for academic snark and birdwatching. @dtgeek helps me stay on top of nerdy media.

@davidthewid

Two is a hard number to whittle it down to, but I give you two independent journalists working very different beats:

@timkmak, a war correspondent covering Ukraine

And @molly0xfff, who is covering cryptocurrency like a hawk and finds humor in legal filings with the seeming ease that I can find juice in my fridge

@davidthewid I highly recommend you follow me. Just kidding.

@davidthewid @inquiline @mel_hogan

Molly White! Her reporting on crypto currency scams/fails/crimes is the best!
