It was a tense conversation with the VP. "But we've already *done* API transformation. What's next?"

I didn't have the correct response for them then. But several years on, I think I finally have the words why #APIs aren't going anywhere.

"As a consultant, I've had the opportunity to peek behind the curtain at several other companies. Unfortunately, what I see there is playing out very much like that meeting with the VP."

"APIs are not JIRA tickets to be done but a modular approach adopted throughout the industry’s culture. Success at any upper layer necessitates a high-degree of execution at the API cultural layer.”

@matthew
Great reflection. To me, a laser focus on "execution" (and ensuing continuous improvement) is part of that mindset that leads to the API culture rather than the API Fashion of that VP.
(I'm also an optimist, so I read the phrase "why #APIs aren't going anywhere" as why they are persistent--entrenched, culture-- and not "why APIs have no future"   )
@DavidBiesack That is a good point. The "feature-factory" mentality is another name for the project driven mindset; the one that conflates an ever greater number of widgets produced as the equivalent of being good at their job.
@matthew @mamund also touched on this point in #Stoplight 's #APIIntersection podcast - i.e. companies that have been making /selling widgets for 100+ years but are now embracing tech to do the job better. https://youtu.be/qlhJp_yUTLg?list=PLFLmRVQdyTF1D5aVoXuq4YP_MQawMMTbC&t=2109
