Correction: It was Apollo 10. Dad developed his roll of film in December. // @dgoldsmith

My parents were at the launch of Apollo 10 in May 69 and I just got a film scanner on Prime Day.

These were from slides. My Mom and Dad took these. #Photography #Space #SaturnV

@jan aww, wow. Those are great!
@donncha BEST PRIME DAY PURCHASE EVER.
@jan I've a bunch of slides from the 90s I'd love to scan. Must look at getting one of those in the future!

@donncha Generally the negatives scan better but with some careful microfiber use, the scans can look cleaner.

I rushed it when I got out Dad's old slides. 😈

@jan What an amazing part of family history!

@photovince Dad was working at ABC Radio and was onsite as a radio engineer.

Good opportunity!

@jan I was born between Apollo 11 and 12 and living in Europe, but i know my dad was glued to the TV back then
@jan I bet dusting them off, scanning again, and loading them into something like Darktable would give them the look they deserve
@jan I’m pretty sure this is another Apollo mission, not Apollo 12. I was at that launch, and conditions were low overcast and rain (Apollo 12 famously was struck by lightning a minute or two after the launch). I distinctly recall the rocket disappearing into low-lying clouds within seconds after liftoff. This video from NBC matches my recollection of the conditions and what it looked like: https://youtu.be/Qc3WwwlxXjc

@dgoldsmith I'll double check with Mom. 😈

@dgoldsmith FANTASTIC!

Mom recalled that she and Dad were at home for Apollo 11. BUT! She was there for Apollo 10!

I’m fixing the toot! Thanks!

@jan What scanner? Does it work with Linux? Does it work well?

@elithebearded No reason for it not to work. The solution stores the images to a SD card in the unit and does not need a PC to work. 😁

The USB cable draws power from the port. When you select the transfer option in the menu you can mount the scanner as a USB drive.

@jan Hmm. I have a Scanza already and consider it absolute crap. That review is saying the Scanza is harder to use, easier to damage negatives (a legit risk with that), but gives slightly better scan results? Yikes, not for me.
@jan i don’t know where you are in the world or if you know this already but I’ll mention it to be sure.
The actual Apollo 10 capsule is on display in the Science museum in London so you can visit it if you ever get chance.

@OverclockedAndy I had no idea! Next time I'm in London (I'm in NY) I'll try to make a stop there.

Thanks!
