The shiny new gizmo I bought at #ACB23 has arrived! I am now the proud owner of a Stellar Trek, a cool little device that's primarily a GPS/O&M tool but can also identify colors and read text and bar codes with its built-in camera. Anybody else out there have one? Might need to pick your brains a little. Looking forward to taking the GPS for a spin on my rides to and from work tomorrow.
@dotsonapage Sounds like a very cool little device. Anxious to hear how it works and how you like it.
@baxaphobia It really is, but so far I seem to be having similar problems with the camera as I do on the iPhone. I point it towards an item and take a picture, but it doesn't detect anything. Tried the Color ID function and it only detected black and beige, which means I'm either doing something wrong or I have really boring shirts. Will continue experimenting and hopefully have more success down the line.
@dotsonapage Let me know how the color part works? I am having a difficult time finding something that does an accurate job and am convinced the answer might not lie in a phone app.
@ShortStamp Will do. My current color identifier is older and often inaccurate, and I have yet to find a phone app that works well, so I'm hoping this will be a better option.
@dotsonapage I have a very ancient one from APH but I lost the adapter for it haha. I've kept it in the hopes that I might one day either find an original or become unlazy enough to see if I could find something that would work as well. Phones don't seem to be accurate, in my experience anyway.
@dotsonapage I mean, it says my hair is gray or brown, which isn't even close! That's how I know the app doesn't work as well as I'd like.
@ShortStamp @dotsonapage I'm also interested to learn how well color identification works on the Trek. All camera-based tools I've used have proven very unreliable, and this includes the #Envision glasses. The last device I liked was the color identifier from APH which, sadly, we no can no longer charge because we lost its power supply at some point.
