The Online Safety Bill is set to puncture the security of messaging apps to enable mass surveillance. It’ll give permission for it to be done in other countries.

Wouldn't client-side scanning mean the text would be handed over to the authorities before encryption took place? Or have I misunderstood this?

@MurrayWindripper @openrightsgroup @Mer__edith the only way to ensure secure encryption is: do it prior to sending we tried it 20-25 ish years ago with PGP alas just a few bothered (or could get their heads around it) it was used signing when buying co.uk domains but just a few kept it up, my pgp open ring is a thing of the past!
How do you know when encryption happens? You send it as txt from there it's open until?

Wow - I watched that programme. What a wonderful sharp woman making an even sharper contrast with the politician trying to emoliantly sell the bill and ignoring the technical issues.

If only they could swap places so we had really intelligent and knowledgeable people setting policy. But that, these days, is not the Tory way.
