I accidentally another mini.
Speaking of Minis, I saw this one listed on eBay and am dying to know how it gets this way. Thrown out of a car? Used as a scratching toy for a tiger? Did a dremel get possessed by an evil spirit and decided to attack?
@paul Knowing how solid they are, I'm thinking it might've been unprotected re-entry
@digitalraven @paul Could be the machine that was controlling the Titan submersible.
@digitalraven @paul Batman borrowed it for use as a field-expedient batarang that one time he'd used all his belt contents on an army of clockwork penguins?
@paul the tiniest scuff or scratch on ANY of my tech devices and I can't sleep for a week!
@pauls @paul I find the first scuff is kind of liberating. I can’t help but baby something when it’s brand new and shiny, but once it’s got a scratch I am free!
@benpye @paul you've just made me come out in a cold sweat even thinking about the first scuff jeez!
@paul can we talk about the power cable a bit? That's fucking anxiety inducing.

@paul I would guess this was someone's travel companion

I once bought a Samsung laptop and took it with me to London - was in my backpack the whole time. Took it out it looked like someone had thrown it off a roof

@paul There’s rack mounted, then there’s being put on the rack.
@paul Those gouges suggest a drop.
@paul went in a washing machine with some nails
@paul and thus began the legend of the Road Mini, roaming from town to town solving medium-scale server problem wherever they went
@paul I wonder if people still mount Mac minis in their cars? That used to be a thing for a while. If it was in an open spot, I could imagine gravel or so doing that to a case.
@uliwitness @paul … or all of the metal around the DIN mounts inside the dashboard? I recall scratching my arms up while replacing the radio in my old Civic.
@paul Someone carried it in their pocket clearly.
@paul condition “Like New”. Few scratches and dents
@paul Intel Mac minis are (still) often used in the events and AV industry, often as small Windows boxes, because they are tough and because they integrate the power supply.
@paul pushed into a shelf/cubby that was slightly too small for it?
@paul “fell off a truck”
@paul The only excuse I would have: Teenagers
@paul Lightly used as an inefficient football.
@paul back when going into offices were the norm I used to work with a bloke who would bring a Mac mini into the office every day instead of a laptop… interesting choice but it worked for him seemingly haha
@BrendanThompson @paul Wow. That's an interesting one... Depending on the setup, that might be me, too!
@SENTINELITE @paul but if you take the Mac Mini everywhere it means you’re so reliant on actually having an external screen and KBM haha
@BrendanThompson @paul Yeah! A really interesting use case for sure. Almost feels like those tour people who carry a tray of Minis to controller FX & such… 😂
@paul I find this happens quite often if the Mac was sold to a recycling center by a business or institution. Basically they are tossed into bins with other Macs and get quite trashed. Usually they are missing the original power cables.
@paul Here is one example I bought on eBay for $15 many years ago.
@paul The owner threw it at something when he was angry.
@paul That must be the Millennium Falcon special edition Mac Mini.
@paul Owned by a teenager - seeing the state of my teenagers MacBook this isn’t far from the same state. 😳
@paul the answer is "no." As in, "No, it will NOT blend."
@paul I’m going to blame Xcode.
@paul it’s an apple product what did you expect
@paul used as a car key tray?
@paul
It was one of several tied with streamers behind a car with "Just Married" painted on it.
@paul my money says an 18 month old picked it up by its cable and dragged around the house.
@paul one time i dropped my steel water bottle on a mac mini and dented it pretty badly. it immediately shut down, but booted fine and continued working after that 🤷🏻‍♀️
@paul it doesn’t look like much but that mini made the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs
