Join the customs union first (that's the most important but)
Then the EEA as a whole and eventually the EFTA
Whether we the rejoin the EU itself would very much depend on what happen in the meantime

J$@SydesJokes no way they’re taking that toxic lot back into their ranks. UK kicked, screamed, sabotaged all the way; then left. There’s a general sense of good riddance, it’s not like ther’s an invitation for the kid that pissed all over the place to rejoin the party.
The sovereign Scots are welcome, of course.

We can't just join stuff because we think we're entitled. Nor will the EU let us cherry-pick the things we want. We made our bed, and we will have to lie in the mess for quite a few years to come. It doesn't really matter what WE want. We lost the right to have a say in June 2016. Rejoining is many years away, and we will never get back all that the Tory Brexit bastards have stolen from us. That is where we are now.

Muro deGrizecoAt the beginning of #brexit , a very old English veteran, speaking at a D-day commemoration, declared that it would such a shame to waste all his generation's effort to win that war and then bind Europe back together into a peaceful whole.
As an American, living in a country where we've been set at each other's throats by the evil efforts of the psychological manipulators, I do sympathize with him.
Similar ops have been run on us.
We have to work to put things back together.
