I wonder how many people posting the screenshot of what the Threads app might have access to already have Instagram installed (which has the same permissions).

@blankbaby Scott,

Rational, non-sensationalist thoughts are disallowed here on Zealotodon. Therefore pls delete this post or I will DEFEDERATE you.

@blankbaby A good point. All facebook apps are poisonous.
@blankbaby i deleted instagram because it made me get really paranoid
@blankbaby also, yeah, Facebook wants your precious bodily fluids. What else is new? That’s kind of their thing. If Threads didn’t want access to a ton of personal info, that would be news. Most people just don’t care.

@blankbaby

Hopefully it helps to people understand how they are being Zucked over.

@blankbaby I have no Facebook apps except WhatsApp installed, and highly locked down permissions on it, making it almost impossible to use even because it's unhappy with that.
@blankbaby I'm definitely guilty of both (and I obv. do see the irony in it). I really wish that I could convince all of my friends (and their friends, etc) to hop over to Mastodon, Pixelfed, etc.
@blankbaby I've just checked what permissions my Instagram has - camera, location, notifications and photos. That's nothing unreasonable, actually. 🤷‍♂️
I'm on Android, though, that might make *some* difference.
@elkarrde @blankbaby when Scott said permissions what he actually meant was the privacy statement that Apple now makes apps have to document what data they collect. There are several screens of things listed in the Instagram privacy statement.
