Literary Twitter is pretty clearly doing a full migration to Bluesky this week.

I saw quite a few writers try Mastodon last fall and bounce off for the usual reasons. I'm sure people will chime in to say that they were clearly all ~lazy clout monsters~ or whatever but it bums me out.

Mastodon is truly the geodesic dome of distributed networks.
@kissane Looks simple and elegant but is surprisingly hard to build? :-)
@kissane hey, bucky was right about the nature of syste change... 🤔

@kissane arrrrgh "systemic" change

i still excel at typo-ridden toots

@kissane No, it's a bummer, and I hate the clout-chaser rhetoric.
@kissane it’s a huge bummer. Especially the way the invites work and etc
@kissane while some communities are very well represented here, others are completely missing. I *love* decentralization but I hate fragmentation.
@kissane so sad cause the video game scene is in the same boat. Hurdles that hurt the first 72 hrs and ppl bounce off. Mostly trying to use external links, from my exp, ending up on a server they aren’t logged in to.

@kissane around 180,000 users with a whopping 1.9 million people on its waitlist to join or get invites

must be nice to be part of the elite who got invites

@thesteelrat fwiw, the moderation alone isn’t ready for a mass userbase but the app is also just glitchy af, it’s definitely a beta release
@kissane How long will they stay, though? I remember a good many of my follows saying they were "moving to Mastodon for good" back in November, but almost all of them quietly crept back over the next few weeks and months.
@hughster @kissane Meta is releasing Threads soon and it has instagram backing. Bluesky could be dead before it even gets going.

@kissane
The loss for #DisabilityTwitter, which may have no migration option, is what keeps me up

Since #disabled people definitely aren’t getting mass invites to any elite platforms
https://graniteandsunlight.wordpress.com/2023/07/02/what-disabled-people-are-losing-with-the-slow-death-of-twitter/

Disabled users reasons for rejecting #Mastodon vary from instance and experience I’m sure

Has anybody done a survey?

I can’t do a #search to find the author or who posted this good article to ask them 🤬

What Disabled People Are Losing With The Slow Death Of Twitter

Once again: the ‘death of twitter’ jokes are fun but the disability community is filled with dread. Twitter fills a specific niche for so many of us which makes it the place we organise…

Granite and Sunlight

@kissane I get it. I’ve been on Mastodon for a while now and still don’t feel like I grok it. And I’ve got a pretty high threshold for fiddleiness.

Bluesky, on the other hand, is like going on family vacation in the clown car of social media.
