@Cryptika * states you can't do work in, for tax reasons
My wife is not allowed to go to New York for ANYTHING that is even tangentially work related. If she does she'll have to pay state income tax in 2 states because her employer is based there but we live in VT. Even if she just spends an hour doing work things in NY.
@zorinlynx @Cryptika in general i believe they do. When the pandemic hit, NYC lost significant numbers of bodies as they moved away and started working remotely. These were predominantly knowledge workers and thus the ones who paid more income tax, but they weren’t living in NY anymore so they weren’t taxable.
So NY changed the rules.
1/2?
@zorinlynx @Cryptika NY redefined how they recognize where a co is based. Mongo DB, for example isn’t legally based in NY but enough of its C-levels live there that it counts under the new rules. They also redefined what constitutes working “enough” time in NY to count for tax purposes as ANY time.
There are a couple exceptions but intentionally not ones individual remote workers can leverage.
So, it USED to be reasonable, but then NY got greedy and put its finger on the metaphorical scale
