Ok friends I need you to listen closely:

Elon Musk doubling down and compounding his bad decisions is NORMAL. This is how rich assholes behave.

This is how they ALL behave.

We're going into a climate crisis. One that requires immediate action. We have unprecedentedly unchecked corporate power structures and an elite that has zero understanding.

And they will make WORSE decisions the more they are pressed.

The rich will destroy the world rather than admit they don't know what they're doing.

But Musk is trashing his own PR machine, you say? Why would he do that?

Because it's his to destroy. Does that hurt him, in the end? Yes. But the ego threat it represents when independent is too much for him to cope with. And he is ultimately insulated from any material harms -- he's still rich, and now you have no Twitter.

The billionaires have to live on earth too, you say? They would rather destroy it for everyone else rather than cede control, even to people better qualified or equipped.

@reneestephen This is something I don't think enough people appreciate. Kim Jong Un is perfectly happy being a zillionaire ruler of starving people. They don't care how bad things get as long as they're on top of what's left.
@smellsofbikes @reneestephen Exactly. It's hard for ordinary people to get their head around this, around the mindset of a despot. It's entirely foreign because it's psychotic.
@reneestephen I propose an edit to this line. *They would rather destroy it for everyone else rather than cede control, _ESPECIALLY_ to people better qualified or equipped."
@reneestephen
But musk is a massive narcissist, so he doesn't believe there's anyone smarter or better qualified than he is.
@reneestephen not just the rich ones...

@reneestephen I disagree. We're not "going into" a climate crisis; we're in one already, and have been in one for some time.

The air quality in NYC just means that the chickens have come home to roost.

@IronCurtain @reneestephen Yes. We're far further into it than most realize. Change is happening far faster than scientists anticipated. Agriculture is getting torched. With the failure of agriculture comes the failure of economies and societies.
@reneestephen I suspect they understand; they just don't care what happens after they die with the most toys/accolades.

@reneestephen

they understand, they play lt colombo because their income comes from not understanding ...

@reneestephen I've been screaming this for years. We are all on a submarine to the Titanic built by a guy who is too brave to be held back by needless government regulation and the only difference between us and the Titan is that this time they're not even on the fucking ship with us so we won't have the satisfaction of knowing that at least they perished as well.

@reneestephen

More precisely, it's how those with psychopathic disorders behave.

@reneestephen Awareness without action leads to anxiety.
@Utah Indeed. So it's good news that there is lots you can do!
@reneestephen no matter how smart you may be, 10 years of nobody ever telling you "no" will make you stupid.
@reneestephen it would be nice if there was more mainstream coverage of what kind of damage businesses are doing. i.e. 'back to office' crap should at least get the environmental damage news coverage it deserves considering it's a topic they keep talking about.
@Beiz We came so close to society realizing that it could organize itself around more mixed-density small, walkable hubs and save the roads for mass transpo, trades, and shipping and I--
@reneestephen They have too much FU money.
@reneestephen I think they know what they're doing. Here is my case for that.https://geoffreydeihl.substack.com/p/circumstantial-evidence

Sane Thoughts for Insane Times
@reneestephen yep it's a #deathcult that way to meny of us worship
@reneestephen The rich truly believe they have immunity.

@reneestephen agreed. I’m kinda tired of people trying to sell us that this is all some 4d chess to destroy free speech by taking down a platform people already hated.

It really is as simple as “billionaires make dumb choices because they are surrounded by yes men”

@reneestephen I agree with most of your warning. The only portion I question is their "zero understanding ". They understand. Fully. It's blatant and wilful ignorance. A recent avoidable submarine tragedy and the potential collapse of once-thriving social platforms are proof.
However, it's their motivation which drives their ignorance.
More.
Translated: pure greed. Greed is a powerful mistress. And that mistress would destroy anything simply to have more, if not all. No care, no concern...MORE
@reneestephen Hah? Thanks for letting me know my Climatology degrees are worthless.
@mctowelie This is not a state of things that we have to accept as a fait accompli. Billionaires are a policy failure.
@reneestephen I'm listening closely and it's still pops and whistles. I'll move along now. Ya know, fait accompli.
