Anybody can write a story about two ‘old stagers’ (though the Mini was only 18yrs old here), but how many magazines can create a cover like this?
Just CAR.
It takes creative genius to convince & develop such a cover & it’s a testament to the magazine’s roll call of great Art Editors (in the case Wendy Harrop) & Richard Davies (who was responsible for the cover).
This looks as good today as when it was fresh on the newsstand…

@thecarfactoids Thank you! I wanted to be a fashion magazine art director as a youngster. To get there I had to create my own! Itʼs always nice to know I need no approval from the publisher since I do that, too!
Car and the 1988 redesign of Autocar were big influences, way more than Vogue.

@jackyan I think CAR was a influence on so many magazines & rightly so…
