As it's not only twitter that's gone down the drain, but also #Reddit, it would be nice to explore alternatives to that.

Is #Lemmy worthwhile? Anyone able to explain it to a noob? Can I use this mastodon a/c to link up to it or will I need to find and join a new Lemmy instance with a new account?

If I join one Lemmy instance does that mean I won't see posts in other instances?

Ok, so now I have a #Lemmy account and it actually may be a solid #Reddit replacement. I found some #Futurama meme sites,#StarTrek discussion, #Ireland forum and a #Philosophy board where I got to engage in a discussion about #Plato, #Nietzsche & his #Dionysus v #Apollo binary framework.

Now I just need to find some more niche communities for #Neoplatonism, #IrishMythology, #TTRPG #Psychology, #Polytheism, #History and general #LeftWing #Socialist or even #SocialDemocratic discussion.

@Lamhfada
That's cool. I use startrek.website as my Lemmy host and have started to kick in via Patreon.

Can I ask, what is the philosophy community?

@Lamhfada Sounds like great progress! I’ve heard #Histodon mentioned as a hashtag for history buffs.
@Lamhfada Is there a #thalassophobia site? That's mainly what I used reddit for, seeing how long I could watch a video before my panic took over and made me close the window. 😆 (Usually about 1.5 seconds.)

@BradRomance You're in luck!

Thalassophobia - Lemmy.world

“Thalassophobia is an intense phobia or fear of large or deep water.”

@Lamhfada What sort of a maniac would have a BLACK lined pool?! 😱😰
@BradRomance Someone who wants to summon eldritch aquatic monstrosities when the stars are aligned right, that's who.
