Hi hi hi I'm coming back to Mastodon because #riptwitter

Who do I need to follow for #neuroscience #education #socialjustice #openscience #soccer #nwsl ?

@analog_ashley I've found following the #nwsl hashtag to be the best way to start, and from there follow people who post about it
@sigmatank oooooh didn't know you could follow hashtags -- just figured it out. Thank you!
@analog_ashley @sigmatank it is the key to getting a twitter like experience with rapid floating of interesting true stuff.
@analog_ashley @sigmatank Ooooohhh, me neither! Also a #NWSL supporter here (Kansas City Current). #KCBABY
@analog_ashley what's happened on twitter this time?

@analog_ashley the neuromatch folks have made their own instance over at neuromatch.social, so the local timeline there is good place to start. Hachyderm.io, the instance that hosts my account, is generally social justice oriented with a tech flavor to its audience.

Sounds like things on the birdsite have been interesting.

@analog_ashley Follow basic hashtags for your interests first. In those you will find posts from people you want to follow.

@analog_ashley welcome back! I can't find the link but I recently watched a video/podcast of yours where you'd discussed the teaching professor track that you are on and your really cool course where you teach undergrads how to record from leech neurons :) I wish such a track existed here in India!

re who to follow: our instance https://neuromatch.social hosts the accounts of several amazing neuro folks โ€‹ and I see that you already follow many of the folks I would have recommended. A few more I'd recommend: @elduvelle @DesrochersLab @neuromatch @climatematch @lili @axoaxonic @skarthik @alicia_izquierdo @lina @vineettiruvadi @marcia_petyt @mstimberg

I also boost intros of neuromatch.social members from our @socialwg account if you wanna check that out

If you ever consider changing instances (or creating another account), we'd ofc be very happy to have you join us here :)

@analog_ashley awesome to see you here! @lisamelton will fill your feed with good. @dgoldsmith too!
@schoppik @analog_ashley @dgoldsmith Thank you for the recommendation and Debbie is who I learned to boost from so I concur! ๐Ÿ’–
@analog_ashley Firstly follow the hash tags then find the right people to follow posting on them. Good luck.
@analog_ashley welcome to Mastodon! There are plenty of interesting people in these areas, I will find some I follow to recomend to you.
@analog_ashley search those hashtags for a timeline of posts/ You can then pick and choose from their authors and retooters
@analog_ashley Welcome back to the land where Mastodons roam!

@analog_ashley People find that my moderately-popular getting started thread has some good advice, but the biggest thing I think you need to know is that you can directly follow _hashtags_. I think you'll find that very helpful.

Attached: 2 images Aaaaand we're off again! Hello to the new wave of #TwitterMigration #Twitter #TwitterExodus and please enjoy a few tips for getting started! 1: There's no algorithm to fill your Home feed for you. You _must_ explore. 2: What are the feeds? "Home" is who and what you _explicitly_ follow "This server" is everyone on your instance "Other servers" is everyone followed by anyone on your instance. 3: #Hashtags are important here, and can be followed. To do so, search for one, then click the "add" icon in the search results bar. 4: Follow (and unfollow) with abandon! Follow people who boost a lot, that helps you find stuff. But you can also follow people and choose _not_ to see their boosts, see first photo. Welcome, and good hunting! ๐Ÿงต:

@analog_ashley A couple more somewhat specialized social justice themed instances are climatejustice.social (which is actually part of a larger climatejustice network of fediverse sites) and union.place .

Also, I'm not sure if the official app has it yet, but I know that browsing the local timelines of other instances can be a bit of a pain, but FYI, the app Fedilab (on Android) lets you do this much more easily. (I've heard there's an iOS app that does the same but I forgot the name.)

@analog_ashley Hi, Ashley: in the social justice department, if you are interested in a long term proposed plan for Enough For All, starting in the US but expanding in Phase IV globally, then I'd love for you to read about Project Do Better (links in my profile, but feel free to ask if I've left anything out there, or on my website...)
Warmly,
Shira Destinie

Lots of social justice on here, it's the antithesis of (sh)itter

I disagree. I've kept my prison abolition themed account on the bird site until more folks show up here. Unfortunately.

@Anulap

Ah but I see prisons needing more people in them my friend. Where else are we going to put the politicians when the revolution comes?

@analog_ashley welcome! I hope you find your tribe(s). Might take a bit of time to settle in, please stick with us. Twitter and Elon are dumb.
