Made the mistake last night of accepting an invite to a farewell party for some friends who are leaving the country for a while, a gathering of 16 friends of the couple who were leaving.

I offered to arrange the ordering and deal with the restaurant staff, as I speak Arabic and know the staff fairly well. It was refused, as was an offer of "lets pay X a per head and they'll bring a banquet suitable for us all" - which has worked out extremely well in the past at this restaurant, was greeted with "no, I want to select from the menu and have my own bill".

Needless to say, the extrovert person who had "organised" the get-together, didn't arrive at the correct time to greet all those invited and ensure the restaurant was prepared and hadn't booked the restaurant properly, so they were not expecting a large party to descend and didn't have the fish stocks in to cater for us all. The ones who arrived drunk were too busy talking loudly to each other to respond properly to staff when asked for their order and then proceeded to blame the restaurant when they didn't have the items available or the wrong order came.

We excused ourselves 5 minutes after everyone had finished eating as, due to the meds I'm on, I needed to leave. Honest.

I suppose it's given us the benefit of knowing a few people whose invitations to gatherings we'll avoid in the future. We also enjoyed the rest of the night with our cats and watching trash TV.

It reminded me of why we don't accept party invitations.

Meal and dancing out tonight with 2 lovely new neighbours from Czech Republic, which will be far easier to deal with.

Currently about 27°C here in the evenings, no jacket required.
