I have a friend who’s joked that the movie about Elon Musk’s time running Twitter could never work as a piece of fiction because no one would believe such a successful businessman would have so many bad ideas about running a company.

Every decision being bad would be too unrealistic. Yet here we are.

Every decision isn’t just bad but also worst than the last one. It’s actually an incredible skill.
@carnage4life It is an awesome thing to behold. Someone so skilled at making bad decisions. Repeatedly.
Clearly I Have Made Some Bad Decisions Shirt

@carnage4life what I find hilarious is that posting should be rate limited, not reading. It's totally backwards
@codinghorror @carnage4life the best part is that if you reach your limit, you cannot even see your own tweets in your profile.
it's perfect
@codinghorror @carnage4life@mas if the rumors about how shoddy the whole thing is, I don't think they have a caching CDN in front of read-only APis.

@carnage4life

Coincidence that Google cloud was gonna shut him off on June 30 due to non-payment? Nahhhhh

@carnage4life And yet he is still very wealthy. That's the part I don't get. He would be bankrupt on the third roll in a game of Monopoly. Born on third base, thinks he hit a triple

@carnage4life Ironically ties into one of my favourite Russian phrases:

"Just when you think you've hit rock bottom, you hear knocking from below."

It's a skill, but not one anyone wants. Even to be associated with. We really ought to send him a cake in the shape of a Mastodon in thanks for driving user adoption. Like how Microsoft sent a cake to Mozilla to congratulate them on a new release.

Edit 'cause I just realized: we'd need to find a working physical address given non-payment… :cough:

@carnage4life truly, such incredibly consistent inverse performance is something that sports and organizational psychologists should be studying for its real-world applications. He's not just wrong but getting *wronger.*

It's marvellously entertaining, but also, these are the same dudes who are going to crash economies and are destroying the environment.

Sobering.

@carnage4life I love how they chain together due to failing to predict the obvious responses.

Lock API -> Scraped -> Block open access -> Scraped by logged in users -> Break regular users

This with the overall arc of "I will fix the bots!" -> "I can't distinguish real users from scrapers." Almost competes with the "Free Speech" -> "I am unilaterally declaring some words to be slurs" arc.

The real winning quality is they're not *just* dumb decisions, they're short-sighted and inconsistent. 👍

@carnage4life The bookies must be taking bets on how bad the decisions will get before the whole thing caves in on itself.
@carnage4life … so human confabulation machine?
