Microsoft wants to move Windows fully to the cloud

Microsoft’s long-term ambition with Windows is to move the OS to the cloud. Windows 365 is just the beginning on the commercial side, with plans to get consumers into a cloud version of Windows eventually.

Plasma is a desktop environment that is easy to use, and protects your privacy. NASA, CERN, public institutions and companies worldwide rely on Plasma because of its features, stability and reliability.

Also the billions of unnecessary connections per second that an online Windows would require across all machines would increase harmful emissions to unacceptable levels.

Meanwhile, KDE is working to cut them back:

@kde Cool, gonna have to read that all later

@kde I see you claim "providing software which does this in a way that reduces software's environmental impact for us and future generations".

Can you back this assertion up? Does the e.V. have a consistent approach, and verifiable enforcement, of this goal across projects?

@kde it's always us the little guys who have to "save the environment". It's always us who picks up after rich people and big corporations.
@kde
I love #kde ! So much great #foss apps, and plasma is (imho) the best desktop environment experience ever !
I love it so much that I had to show the word that my body runs KDE, so I inked it into my skin !
Thanks for everything, keep up the good work ❤️.
@kde I can't attest for reliability and stability anymore. It's gotten worse the last few months. I hope that this is to attribute to the work on Weyland support/integration, cause otherwise, I don't see a future for kde

@horzion

Plasma, like all large software projects is not bug free. But all bugs do not affect all people.

There are hardware, packaging, and configuration factors that may escape KDE's control. Indeed, your experience may be specific to you.

That said, you can do your part and dispel any doubts at the same time by reporting concrete, reproducible bugs to

@kde F'ing Windows. It's been years since I've had to give up anything to use Linux. Anything Windows can do, Linux can do better.
@kde And my computer only needs to use the cloud when I want it to use the cloud.

Many saw this coming. Will stick to Windows 10 and will never upgrade it.

And…KDE Patrons: ‘The’ Google.

@kde My non-techie family members use #debian with #plasma on their laptops and they're very happy with it. After I installed it and showed them how to use and update the system they never wanted to change back to windows.
@kde But I like MATE + Openbox and whatever else I'm running here.. Y'all make it too easy, too stylish. If nature intended that GPUs would grow on trees 😆
@kde Can this be shown anywhere except people already following you?
@kde I feel like not many companies/people are gonna fall for it, they'll be left with that like with metaverse
@kde Hi KDE, Didnt they already do this with the roll out of Office 365. You need to be signed in to access your documents or even open a pdf
@kde ysk about the kde connect air mouse. That thing is lit!

@kde

I live in SE Asia. The internet slows considerably from 4-9 everyday as people leave work/school & hop online. The infrastructure isn't ready here for that.

@kde

I spent days trying to turn off MS's bloatware on my last machine. Cortana, the AI assistant, cannot be uninstalled. You can, supposedly, turn it off, but it still runs in the background.

On the other hand, I'm very happy with my new machine running Linux. It's noticeably faster, does everything I want, and it doesn't spy on me.

@kde Last time I tried using Plasma, I had to lose two days worth of work in order to wipe, format, and install GNOME (of all things). So apologies, I will stay with Microsoft, whatever harrowing that choice may be
