I am so obsessed with this stretch of the brown line, I just got there again today.
Not sure if you can tell, but the driver in the first photo was waving and honking at me. They always seem to enjoy this!
Stumbled upon the mythical Lower Lower Wacker Drive today. It exists below even the lower level of Wacker Dr, and apparently this is where impounded cars go. It’s more than a little spooky.
I am not sure if this is a good project or not, but it’s genuinely always exciting to see public transit improvements happening at scale.
As if to prove my point, I went for a walk at a different part of Chicago today, and I completely stumbled upon a new station being constructed! (Green Line, Lake and Damen)
Chicago’s mural game is so good. These are ones just from last week’s walks!
I know nothing beats the High Line, but Bloomingdale Trail feels much nicer to me than San Francisco’s ho-hum ribbon park in the sky.
I love these public transit L stories at the Armitage station. “It just makes me feel like part of the community riding [the subway] instead of riding in a car.”

@magnetic_tape There’s a million of those in Chicago! I think every one in the loop is a movable bridge.

@mwichary no joke, that station will be a pretty big deal. Would have loved one to be on Western but either way. I think it will support a lot of people!
@grumpasaurus Curious what made them skip so much coverage on that stretch of the Green Line to begin with?
@mwichary probably same reason for the long stretch in the south loop between Roosevelt and Archer: predominantly industrial zone at the time.
@grumpasaurus Ah, I’m also learning there used to be a station there originally, but it was closed in 1948 presumably for the reasons you’re stating.

@mwichary Not sure whether it's the green or blue line (or both!), but unless it's been changed recently with renovations, it's that same skinny-slanted font featured in the bottom right corner photo. I'm wondering whether I'm misremembering seeing it as well on one of the stations near Tri-Taylor/UIC.

@mwichary Just that CTA logo on the side of an above-ground station house; the station name itself makes use of the same signage currently employed system-wide.

jimlindstrom@mwichary I love that too. I was checking out this location on google maps. Didn't realize it was right under the brown line, which I also live near. I love watching the shadows it casts as the suns traverses. (Streetview image, since I don't have a good one of my own handy.)
