I've been a software engineer for 17 years now and I'm still afraid of setting up printers
@kstatz12 That's just wisdom
@ricci also is it just more economical to buy the cheapest printer with the sample ink every time instead of refills?
@kstatz12 @ricci at least half my obsession with eink tablets is to avoid using printers.
@kstatz12 @ricci Hate printers. That said, the Brother MFC-J995DW I bought in Feb 2020 is amazing b/c it prints every time, and I’ve put ink in it only once. My parents liked mine so much they got one too, and are also amazed: an actual working printer. Un-freaking-believable.
@infinimatt @ricci you're a sick mother fucker for making me hope again
@kstatz12 @ricci lol sorry saw that after posting. maybe they didn’t completely bork the replacement model?

@[email protected] @[email protected] my parents still think I mostly fix printers and “restart the internet,” despite me being in on call, at their house, during a us-east-1 outage where I was trying to reroute Heroku control plane traffic around that region via DNS hackery. On speakerphone. In the living room. Though, I guess that’s makes sense as I am sure the convo sounded like magic incantations to non-operators.
