I have this cat laying with me. He doesn’t care about my problems at work. He doesn’t care about Meta and the fediverse. He doesn’t care that Fedia.io’s database is a

He, for some reason, just wants to lay right here. Purring softly. Twitching now and then as he dreams. Apparently feeling safe.

He’s 17. I give him insulin injections twice a day and he has a shaved spot on his back with a glucose meter glued to his skin. Yet he still trusts me.

When I adopted him 17 years ago, he was a wreck. He peed on my couches, pooped on my bed. But he grew out of that.

He and I play games, even still today. i will act scared to see him and back away, and he will start chasing me.

He knows how to ask me for what he wants. I feel like I understand him sometimes.

I’m really am super lucky he put on a show when I was looking for a rescue to adopt all those years ago. He’s been an awesome cat.

@jerry cats are so wonderful 💙
@jerry as we say here "love that cat!" I love how they change with you - I have two sister kitties and they are small for their size. They pee sometimes on things, but I still love them and look out for what they want. Kittens and their mittens...
@jerry My cats not quite as old as yours, but when you mentioned the diabetic sensor, I had to post a photo of my cat Sierra. He also has diabetes and a sensor on his side. You can see it a little in this pic. Also, his friend Brie the dog unfortunately passed away this spring, but other than that he is doing well. Crazy how big of an impact these animals can have on our lives.

@unicent damn right. Thor is the second cat I’ve had with diabetes. My first was before the sensors we have today were around and we had to leave him at the vet for a day every few months so they could draw blood every hour to check how the insulin was working.

I’m sorry for the loss of Brie. But glad Sierra is doing well.

@jerry

Holy crap I was unprepared.

This is why we have pets.

Good on ya!

@jerry
I'm not crying
@fsnk sorry. Just had the feels there for a minute.
@jerry the trust is amazing and heartening. They know good people and that's why they put on a show.
@jerry So lucky to have found each other!😻
@jerry @AlgoCompSynth what an absolute sweetie! He’s your bff for sure 💜
@kataklysm @AlgoCompSynth thanks - he really is the best. I am lucky to have a friend like him.
@jerry @AlgoCompSynth we don’t deserve our animal companions.
@jerry you're both lucky to have each other. Reading your heartfelt toot made me remember the strong connection I had with my cats, especially the first one who was a rescue siamese (much peeing and pooping at the start there too!).
@jerry I feel this so hard. We have a cat Blake who will physically reach out and touch me if I am not paying him enough attention 😻
@jerry Our 17 year old fur ball is much the same. He's taking injections, both water and some small molecule thingie to increase his energy. Spends 20 hours on our bed each day. Enjoy every moment.

@jerry define heaven if you aren’t religious..

@jerry It is important to show up for our pets every day. Their lives are short but with our help, so full of so much love and friendship.
@jerry awesome cat and awesome cat parent 🥰
@jerry Thank you for sharing
@jerry
I have 3 like that, the oldest is 19 an found us in the woods one day when we went to look for mushrooms. He popped out of the woods, had a drink of water, then hopped into the van. The other two are rescues.. they each deserve their own toots.
@jerry Having the love and trust of a cat is one of the best feelings in the world :)
@jerry you have an awesome relationship with you cat

I wish you both a lot of healthy years together.
