@GottaLaff One interpretation: Prigozhin was ordered by Putin to attack Shoigu in order to get him removed. But then, why did Putin and Lukashenko bolt? Lukashenko and family are reportedly in Turkey. Putin, fled to St. Petersburg.

Another possibility: Prigozhin has given Putin and his top supporters time to flee before he resumes a march on Moscow.

Whatever is going on, there's still lots of fog of war here and I don't think anyone has a strong take that explains all these contradictions.

#Belarus President #Lukashenko arbitrated a truce, which resulted in #Wagner Commander #Prigozhin agreeing to order his troops to turn around. As part of that arrangement, charges against Prigozhin will be dropped, and he will be given asylum in Belarus. Theoretically, his troops will also be forgiven and sent back to fight in #Ukraine.

But, experts on Russian politics on channels like #CNN and #MSNBC give him less than 90 days before he is assassinated.

I would stay away from tall buildings if I were him. Belarusian high-rise windows could turn out to be just as deadly as the Russian ones.

My own theory is that this was a personal vendetta against the two Russian Generals by Prigozhin. After the fled the city, he could not get his revenge; there was no point in continuing onward.

@GottaLaff this is likely ALL bs! Putin knows there is a huge population of gullible people in the west. He doesn't have to look too hard. Confusion can go a long way to sway a population. Populations sway politics. Politics shapes policy. Putin has a lot at stake in what happens in the west. Confusion is one strategy in the arsenal.

@GottaLaff I think Putin realised Prigozhin just wanted to be a president and some other ex Russian place will do for him. And it works in his favour if a military with 60,000 troops is based north of Ukraine and east of Poland. There’s a rebellion happening in Belarus and Prigozhin will quash it with Russian troops already there PLUS the new 60,000(+) troops Wagner has. Lukashenko just signed his own death warrant

I think this is a far more unstable position for NATO and Europe.

Prighozhin will need food tasters for the rest of his life, even if he really does go to Belarus. The Wagner group was his power base, so it makes no sense to abandon it. He already has money.

This can't be the end of the coup, more likely the end of the beginning. At least I'm hoping not.
