For the upcoming monster poll, I advise against choosing the option to use improvised ranged attacks, as it will put Nathaniel at a disadvantage due to the out-of-range attack mechanics. Additionally, running away from the fight is an option, but it's not a guaranteed success and will result in no experience gain.
