In protest of recent changes to #Reddit's API terms, some of the site's users ran apps like #PowerDeleteSuite to overwrite or delete their entire Reddit comment and post history.

This morning, multiple users across the Fediverse are claiming that Reddit has quietly restored their overwritten/deleted posts.

Some claim this unrequested & undesired restoration of history seems limited to accounts who used PDS. Others speculate this could be a server-rollback issue.

Attached: 2 images 👿 PSA: #Reddit is restoring deleted and overwritten posts to save what they consider "their data". This is a new low and probably illegal at least in Europe. You can send a GDPR or CPRA request here: https://www.reddit.com/settings/data-request These are screenshots of my profile on June 14th before and after overwriting and then deleting all my posts with Powerdelete. Today, June 16th all my posts have been restored by Reddit without my knowledge or consent. #redditblackout #redditmigration #kbin #lemmy

@jbe I was honestly expecting this to happen. Reddit TOS essentially says that once you post something on their site, they have a license to use it indefinitely. Users don't have the means to revoke that license, and they really should.
@jbe I had a small enough footprint that I manually deleted everything in a good 45 minutes spite. All comments are back.
@parrellel
That could support the server-rollback theory, I suppose. Or something else.
@jbe It wasn't a rollback of everything, at the very least. The 4 or 5 threads I'd started stayed gone.
