@evacide I don't know if I can watch this because I just spent 20 seconds laughing at "University of Texas Instruments"
@evacide as a millennial that uses vim, emacs confuses and frightens me 👀
@evan Huh. As an "elder" millennial, same! ...Is it because we grew up with things like edlin that we like vim so much?

@evacide

what do you mean, "maybe"?

@JoYo @evacide what do you mean, “been”
@evacide [colorized] has made me age like the guy in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
@evacide ROFL That cuts a little too close to home ;-)
@evacide omg this is SO Linux enthusiasts, too, lol. <3
@evacide
Definitely shared this at work, though i dont think the VSCode folks will understand
@evacide Why you hurt me like this.

@evacide Look. I know how to exit Emacs, and that's about it.

(Open another terminal, ps -ef | grep emacs, kill -9.)

@ellie @evacide OMG! This one made me laugh out loud at my desk.
@ellie @evacide allow me introduce you to: pkill -9 emacs
@sigsegv @evacide On machines new enough to me to have EDITOR set wrong, pkill is rarely installed. But sure, if you've got it use it.
@ellie @sigsegv @evacide hilarious because: why would you exit Emacs?
@ellie @evacide I have one for you: `pkill -9 emacs` :)
@evacide I loved it. Remarkably on point. (disclaimer: daily Emacs user since 1988, but am VSCode-curious)
@evacide That "I don't remember [asking your opinion]" had me cracking up.
@evacide Can't stop laughing about "People don't quit emacs. They just die at some point." :-D
@evacide ha, yes someone shared a link for this earlier today 😀
@evacide how has this not created a civil war here w vi people?!
@gretared @evacide
There is nothing civil about vi users.
@evacide “[Colorized]” was the first of several snort-laughs. Thank you! (This post written in Pico cuz I’m lowly management scum.😝)
@evacide at ”some point of time” indeed <peers into the abyss of the git repo of interlinked .org files, laughing maniacally>

@evacide I used Emacs for several years.

Some text editors change text.

Emacs...changes you. 🪬

@evacide "two words: org-mode." why do they have to call me out like this?
@evacide OMG this is so good.
@evacide I wish we had quote retweet type functionality... perhaps soon.

@evacide

"I used to spend hours trying to get the image on the right page. Now I use org-mode LaTeX and just accept that it's impossible."

"I don't really have time to play Tetris. I gotta work on that config."

I'm dying. That was me and I have died.

@penryu @evacide
> "I used to spend hours trying to get the image on the right page. Now I use org-mode LaTeX and just accept that it's impossible."
Yeah, that's the best part, really cracked me up 🤣
@evacide oh my god I have actually said some of that
@evacide there was suddenly a great deal of swearing in this house

@evacide *whispers* org mooodddeeeeeeee

*dies*

@evacide this was exactly my first job (at a company that made Lisp compilers). As a performance art I spent a week running /bin/ed in the most expensive workstation I could find: an SGI Indigo.
@evacide "Well that's the thing you don't understand. People never quit Emacs… They just die at some point."

@evacide Oh god, these were my professors in university! :P Ad LaTex on top of it and I'm right back in the nightmare. Using Nano was cursing! Using a text editor, and they'd have a heart attack.

Regular battles between VIM users and EMacs users. XD.

So.. Emacs or vim, when they were looking at the screen, then this millennial would quickly switch to nano or some other editor the moment they weren't watching :P .

@evacide fwiw all of this person's videos resonate so well. He's found a quality niche and style and I've yet to be disappointed.
@evacide and of course the youtibr clip has been edited in emacs. ctrl-k, ctrl-y.
@evacide Guilty as charged, m’lud.
@evacide OK, that was hilarious, and I am a lawyer. Let us just say, however, that my wife has never let me live down the fact that I made my text editor play music.
