I finally succumbed to a sale on a laser engraver recently. Here is my first success with my biz logo. It's a little burned, but I'll figure out the right settings. I want a nice deep etch, but without the burn fog around it. #woodworking #laserengraving #lasercutting
@BadAlienBob what model of engraver, out of curiosity?
@andypiper longer ray5 10W. I also got the table protection accessory. I like that it has a frame with a ruler you can snug your wood against to align it.
@BadAlienBob On the YouTubes I saw someone put something on top to limit the burning. Maybe masking tape, but I canโ€™t recall. FYI.

@BadAlienBob you can put masking tape over it and the laser should burn through it without a problem. If you have a lot of little pieces you can use some fine tip tweezers (or an X-acto if youโ€™re comfortable with it) to peel away the smaller bits of tape. Itโ€™s more work, but the results are a lot better than if you sand it..

Either way hope you enjoy the engraver!

@wbrowar I saw some references to using tape. Sounds like the thing to try next! Thanks for the tip!
@BadAlienBob @wbrowar Several passes with lower power could reduce the "smoking" halo...
@BadAlienBob Masking tape is your friend. I've also found that a magic sponge can do a pretty good job cleaning up scorching oils. Just be sure to rinse it out frequently or you'll effectively just be spreading the stain around.
@richardgunther ohh. Cool. I've got some of those in the closet.
