The full meal comes with white rice topped with shiso (perilla leaf) and soy beans seasoned with mirin, soy sauce and sugar. All common ingredients sold by every supermarket.
Nattō is an ubiquitous home breakfast food. It's fermented soy beans covered in a slimy fluid similar to mucus, and has a pungent smell.
It's clearly an acquired taste. As a foreigner, sometimes I get praised for being able to eat nattō 😆
