"Nobody wants to work anymore" is a thing employers say when they're unwilling to pay a fair wage and provide safe working conditions.
#Greed

@rgulick

They're just not saying the, "...for a pittance" part out loud 'cause it makes them look bad.

@rgulick Exactly. At some hourly rate, I'd pick strawberries for a living.
@rgulick Don't like to bring Twitter over here, but this thread is great. It's actually here somewhere too, but I'm too lazy to dig it up.

A Brief History of Nobody Wants to Work Anymore 🧵

X (formerly Twitter)

@rgulick A while back on the bird site, a friend of mine posted a thread of newspaper articles where someone complained "nobody wants to work anymore" dating as far back as the late 1800s or early 1900s.

Capitalism's been singing that same tune for a loooooong time.

@rgulick
It is perfectly clear why many people no longer want to work
From all sides you are burdened
But you don't get relieved

Perhaps some of the employers should open their eyes and appreciate what employees are doing.
Instead, the setting, everyone is replaceable.
Too sad that I know exactly that and am aware that I am simply replaceable.

@rgulick not to forget 10 and 12 hours shifts and 48 hours a week contract that end up being 50 and more for the same money.
@rgulick Best comeback I heard to that is, "Of course no one wants to work. No one ever has. Read your Bible. It was literally the worst punishment GOD ALMIGHTY could inflict on a disobedient Adam!"
@rgulick And they've been saying it forever.
@rgulick @[email protected] I pay more than fair wages and still can find no one to work in a small bookstore. Every small business I know in this area has the same problem. It’s been going on for years & only getting worse.
@starcatbooks @rgulick @Dragon What's your definition of fair wages, and if in the USA does it contain any benefits/insurance?
@rgulick Recently (I forget where otherwise I'd find it and credit them), I saw someone with another take on this: ' "No-one wants to work any more" is "No-one wants to date nice guys", but for companies.'
