You have to admit, regardless of your political beliefs, that a guy going to federal prison for years because when he himself was president he signed an order to increase the minimum sentence for the exact crime he committed is hands down the funniest shit that could ever happen and we are nanometers away from that once-in-a-lifetime hysterical occurrence taking place.

You have to want this to happen if you have any appreciation for comedy.

@rodhilton

Yep!
Prestige doesn’t shield a person from prosecution.

@truepeacenik sure yes yes sense of justice nobody above the law all that all that, definitely. Of course. Sure.

But also, holy hell nobody has ever pitched a funnier punchline to a joke in history.

Amen, Brother Rod! Even the quips about "lock her up/pronouns matter" cannot beat this singular punch line.

@truepeacenik

That’s never been true. The purpose of wealth and power is for escaping the consequences of one abuses of wealth and power.

@rodhilton Would much rather Trump goes down for seditious conspiracy. Apparently trying to seize control of the government is less serious than storing documents in his golf club.
@joshwaa @rodhilton That's still on the table. We await DC...
@joshwaa @rodhilton whynotboth.gif?
@dingodog19 @rodhilton whynotyet.gif?

@joshwaa @rodhilton maybe I'm naive, but I feel like Jack Smith is doing a pretty good job of balancing speed with the prudence necessary to get and maintain convictions.

I think the J6 case is harder to prove, so it's taking longer. But there is a DC grand jury, right? So they will vote on something, if they haven't already.

I'll gladly wait a little longer if it makes the case stronger.

@rodhilton Is there a link to the length of the sentence it was pre-trump to what it is now that they have increased it?

#poetry

@cakemix This article includes information about the old and update laws: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/fact-check-did-trump-sign-into-law-felony-for-which-hes-indicted/ar-AA1cljkK

Basically: The law went from a misdemeanor (1 year) to a Class E felony (5 years).

@rodhilton

Fact Check: Did Trump Sign Into Law Felony for Which He's Indicted?

Trump announced on Thursday that he was being indicted over an investigation into classified documents.

MSN

@CharJTF @rodhilton 1 to 5?

Oooh that’s gotta smart!

thanks for the link.

@cakemix @CharJTF @rodhilton According to the indictment, many of the 38 counts carry 5 years.

@rodhilton In my opinion, this man will rather die a natural death after a long life than go to prison.

Americans send petty shoplifters to jail for years if they are black. Trump will not go to jail. For nothing. Because he's white, male, and apparently quite rich.

And yes. If you're not damn careful, he's going to be #47.

@a8e @rodhilton Well that will certainly be true if people are apathetic and defeatist
@rodhilton Not even a surprise. Every GOP attack is actually a confession.
@rodhilton
Hey, don't jinx it! You know there's going to be HUGE blow-back from the MAGAts, Proud Boys, all those supposedly "white" (I see a lot of brown & Asian people) supremacists & nationalists... oh, & the bat sh1T bonkers congresspersons & senators talking truly traitorous stuff. Even if (when) he's convicted, I think sentencing will be treacherous, & making it happen, even more so.
@rodhilton karma comedy. When he cried "lock her up" over and over who knew he was just projecting like that? He thought misgendering himself would cover the projection, but no, we got the message loud and clear
@rodhilton who is him?? that's hilarious, that's right!
@rodhilton
Hoist with his own dotard?
@rodhilton then tack on the kid rock as a possible witness to said crimes and man.. it's just so funny.
@vicgnarly wait what? That's not real is it?
@rodhilton it's likely not him that's in the indictment but he may have given testimony and we won't know until it's all unsealed. https://www.avclub.com/sadly-thats-probably-not-kid-rock-in-the-margins-of-th-1850526388 it's just a hilarious prospect only.
Sadly, that's probably not Kid Rock in the margins of the Trump indictment

The unsealing of the Trump indictment has renewed interest in a 2022 interview in which Kid Rock said Trump showed him "maps" while in the White House

The A.V. Club
@rodhilton speaking of comedy it’s a pity the writer’s strike has stopped late-night comics from riffing on this this latest indictment
@JonChevreau @rodhilton I think this is worth making an exception and breaking the strike for...
@rodhilton Rachel Maddow called it the "neener factor"
@rodhilton or he gets elected again and pardons himself from a prison cell. Not really "funny" in that case for most of us
@zzzeek so you'd prefer him not go to prison?
@rodhilton id prefer the trial completes before the election so maybe he can't even reasonably run and I hope judge cannon recuses herself
@rodhilton oh, yeah. This is like the white GOP legislators that pass hysterical anti-gay bills "to protect our children" and a year later they're under indictment for soliciting young boys for sex.
@rodhilton "...the ‘neener-neener’ factor here is high" - Rachel Maddow
@rodhilton If it happens we might as well name it the "Trump Effect"

@rodhilton

He also wanted group executions and to bring back the electric chair and firing squads.

@rodhilton inverse tim leary, who escaped prison thanks to a inmate personality test he helped invent
@rodhilton it would be funnier if Assange got off because of the heavy but useless tests for culpability that Trump's defense attempted which then provided a legal precedence for Assange to pivot away from jail with.
@rodhilton It sounds like somebody wanted to be spanked harder at the moment.
@rodhilton I doubt he will actually go to prison. But house arrest (no moving around between houses) for the rest of his life, with no golf or internet allowed, would be good.
@rodhilton Lawyers say it will take a year or two before a conviction, and my brain will be jittering and screaming "Now Now Now!" the whole time.
@rodhilton
Hilarious indeed. But wait until you check french politics and Sarkozy! Sentenced to one year (and waiting for a couple more trials), was claiming than every sentence should actually be served!
@rodhilton they were bringing down the potential value of the documents that *he* was stealing or planning on stealing - the worst of crimes.
@rodhilton I’m sure that will be the basis of an upcoming Curd Your Enthusiasm episode
@rodhilton Beautiful. Truly beautiful. 👏
@rodhilton extra point for using the term nanometer
@FreakyFwoof @rodhilton It's absolutely hilarious. He shot himself in the ass and it's the funniest thing I"be ever seen.

@rodhilton

My politics are in opposition to those who support the former President, but I know that most of them would probably not agree with your assessment, as they've been effectively conditioned by the GOP's entertainment wing to believe this is all a partisan hoax.

I do think the irony is sweet though.

@rodhilton 15 months hotel arrest @charles_ex
@msgbi @rodhilton He my be a casualty of political jujitsu. Didn't the person who invented the guillotine lose his head as well?
@rodhilton @Urban_Hermit sets up a stronger sense of martyrdom amongst true believers
@rodhilton
I am breathless with anticipation… when the actual circumstance occurs, George and Lenny shall rise as one to fling their single digit salute.
@rodhilton With the case presided over by a judge he appointed ...
@rodhilton It’s funny but not funny at the same time. Trump is the living embodiment of hubris.

@rodhilton I really hope he isn’t elected for a second term, but at the same time what would be even funnier is if he is elected and pardons himself from his cell.. the Simpsons can’t even predict that one 🤣🤣🤣

There’s so many scenarios that this could go and to be honest it’s pretty fascinating and hilarious.
