I humbly present to you https://fedia.io - a general interest kbin instance.
Thread - Fedia

content aggregator and micro-blogging platform for the fediverse

@jerry fyi
@pixelnull what did you do that led to that?
@jerry tried to log in with a google account
@pixelnull ahh - I think I may have to set up an oauth application to enable google logins
@jerry I see you using your infosec.exchange name - does that mean I could have registered with that account?
@NoodleHeadRed unfortunately, no. That [email protected] account is a federated account - my local account is just jerry or [email protected]
@jerry @NoodleHeadRed whoops define federated here, because that above comment is me, and it showed up in my Masto timeline. Which - cool!
@jerry This is pretty awesome!
@jerry thanks for setting this up! Now I need to figure out how to add magazines for other instances. I’ve seen several interesting ones on kbin.social and beehaw.
@jerry I can't seem to set my avatar?
@jerry To what extent can we interact with Kbin with our Mastodon account? I see you posted using [email protected] (I need to read up on what a Kbin microblog is)
@phurd you can send messages back and forth and follow accounts on kbin with your mastodon account and vice-versa
@jerry ah I see. thanks

@phurd @jerry and you can follow the groups from Masto too.

Thank you Jerry, I'm going to bed but I'll look tomorrow. πŸ₯±

@jerry @phurd

Is there a good human readable guide about all the specific things you can do on kbin with your existing mastodon accounts (and how to) versus what things you need a kbin-specific account to use?

@tchambers @phurd I’ve not found one. The documentation is pretty sparse. I think we are ahead of where the developer of kbin intended for us to be
@jerry I can't see replies from my account @[email protected] or change my profile pic
@jahanson @[email protected] right - it's because I followed myself there
@jerry @[email protected] I meant, I can't see any activity from my fedia account on this post. I can't set that profile pic. Sorry for the confusion.
@jahanson @[email protected] I have a feeling that federation between calckey and kbin doesn't work. When I try from my infosec.town account, I see the same thing.
@jerry Compared to Lemmy, was kbin easier to install? Do absolutely none of them offer 2FA? I feel so exposed. πŸ˜†
@noregerts I would say it's a toss up. Lemmy's ansible installer is pretty handy, but it took a good bit of experimentation to get it working well. kbin is much more manual. I'm still fighting some lingering issues with both, so neither are my favorite at the moment
Thanks @jerry ! This is pretty cool, been looking forward to it all week.
@jerry dang, getting "429 Too Many Requests" error
@risibledog that's no good. I'll have to figure out how to fix that. Usually I go more than a few hours before hitting the scaling limits...
@jerry I’ll give it another shot in a whileβ€” curious to check it out!
@risibledog ok - it's a rate limit in the software - what were you doing when you started getting the error?
@jerry oh hmm I just opened it in a browser and was completing the registration signup - would it depend on what I had going on in other tabs or anything like that?
@bengenn @risibledog We just identified an issue where accessing the site via ipv6 would cause this. I just removed the ipv6 addresses. Give it a bit to propagate out and try it again, if you are willing/able.
@jerry @risibledog Thanks Jerry. All good from my end now, signed up and logged in.
@jerry my password doesn’t work 😭
@sickmatter you need to create a new account there.
@jerry I did, but the new password doesn’t work. Do I need to confirm an email first?
@sickmatter yes - you should have gotten an email with a confirmation link
@jerry unless said email is still queued, it seems to have been lost in the email-ether
@sickmatter did you use the same email address as for here?
@jerry yeah, my gmail address
@sickmatter I can't explain it, but there is no attempted registration on fedia.io with your email or your username. Can you give it another shot?
@jerry yeah let’s see if this try works
@jerry I think you want world domination on fediverse? 🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣 testing everything?

Old McDonald had a site, fedi-a-io 🎡

@jerry Still 429 when registering btw
@mykl @fuomag9 I don’t yet know what is causing that. There are some rate limits, but they are reasonable and only a portion of people seem to be getting it (and it’s not related to load)
@mykl @fuomag9 We just identified an issue where accessing the site via ipv6 would cause this. I just removed the ipv6 addresses. Give it a bit to propagate out and try it again, if you are willing/able.
@jerry @mykl Ouch, what was causing that? I love IPv6 T.T

@jerry Thank you so much for all the work you are doing! <3

Seems like there is some issue with image storage / retrieval for me at the moment - I can't see any avatars, and places where other kbin instances show post preview images also seem to be empty on fedia for me. Is this a known / general issue, or should I check on my end?

@hacksilon hi Max. It’s a known issue. I will attempt to connect in a bit
