@elduvelle
I think of myself as left, I could be what’s considered far left, it’s not entirely clear what the delineation is.

To me “left” means socialized medicine, solid social safety nets, subsidized university, that sort of thing.

@bigheadtales @elduvelle

Do you support the complete dismantlement of all current systems of exploitation? Including capitalism? Congratulations, welcome to the far left.

@atatassault @elduvelle
I don’t mind capitalism as long as it’s regulated within a social democratic structure.

Pure capitalism is nothing but fascism in a suit.

@bigheadtales @atatassault @elduvelle Capitalism has nothing to do with fascism. Unregulated "wild" capitalism is certainly very bad, it leads to oligarchy and autocracy, but fascism is just wrong word. Please don't use that word as a synonym to "bad" or "oppressive", it has more specific meaning.

@bjeelka @atatassault @elduvelle
I disagree, fascism is a form of authoritarian government where the government leadership enriches themselves by subverting the population, controlling resources and markets (often by force) and giving preferential, even monopoly treatment to rich, loyal benefactors.

I would argue that fascism is the natural evolution of unregulated capitalism.

@bigheadtales @atatassault @elduvelle This is NOT the definition of fascism.
@bjeelka @atatassault @elduvelle
Please correct me then. Give me your definition.

@bjeelka
That's a fair definition from a philosophical point of view, but it leaves out the exploitation by the authoritarian leadership of rich business interests for profit.

Suggest you do some reading as to how Hitler and the Nazis relied upon support from rich businesses in return for preferential government treatment.

Still, I will take your comments into my thinking.

@bigheadtales Yeah, but pretty much all regimes do that to some extent. All political systems rely on large busyness support, democratic, autocratic, all forms of anocracies and hybrid regimes do that, and fascist totalitarian regimes not an exception. Even regimes that call themselves socialist do that, for example our Ukrainian oligarchs are actually originated in late soviet "red executives" system - the corruption-based monopolies, half-state, half-quazi-private.

@bjeelka @bigheadtales @elduvelle

Capitalism is an authoritarian consolidation of power in the form of money. Capitalism and Fascism go hand in hand.

@atatassault @bigheadtales @elduvelle That's not a definition of capitalism either.

@bjeelka @bigheadtales @elduvelle

>That's not a definition of capitalism either.

You don't even understand the difference between a definition and a description (the latter of which is what I used). I gave you a chance, a benefit of the doubt, but you continued to prove yourself to be a dumbass conservative troll. Bye Felicia.

@atatassault @bigheadtales @elduvelle
Nobody on the left wants to destroy Capitaism. They just want rules of the road. Same accusations of fear by the Radical Relious Right.
@GatekeepKen @atatassault @bigheadtales @elduvelle Nobody who falls under the category of "left" does, no, but that's what the category of "far left" is for, they definitely do. They pretty much don't exist in any great numbers in the US which is why normal lefties are often called "far left" by the extreme right.
@StarkRG @atatassault @bigheadtales @elduvelle
So who's side are you on.
StarkRG (@[email protected])

@[email protected] In the US I'd be very far left, just about everywhere else in the world I'm moderate left. I'm not sure I consider anyone who doesn't want to abolish most private ownership to be "far left". I don't think there's too much need for private vehicles anymore, but I'm still a fan of most private ownership. I'm even a fan of limited private enterprise, so there's no way I could be considered "far left".

@bigheadtales @elduvelle I'm a European, so all those things sound pretty centrist. Overton windows and all that...
@jimh @elduvelle
Oh yeah, definitely. Europe is so much more human friendly, the United States has been dragged so far right that we have a choice between ultra-right-wing and center-right. (I know, 2 parties is a silly idea)

@jimh @elduvelle
The advantage of a multi-party democracy is that all of the parties tend to gravitate to the center to curry maximum support.

The US two-party system is inherently divisive and combative. It’s us against them, left or right.

Now it’s between democracy and fascism.

It allows no middle ground.

It’s an inherent weakness at the core of America.

@bigheadtales @elduvelle A social contract where we look after everyone because that is nicer and happens to improve productivity, education levels and reduce illness
@bigheadtales @elduvelle I'm far left. I believe in the abolition of property, the gift economy, and the radical decentralisation of power.
@bigheadtales @elduvelle
There is no far left unless you're a MAGA. So What is it Anitfa? I hate facist, so am I far out...So be it.
“These are times when what used to be called liberal is now called radical; what used to be called radical is now called insane; what used to be called reactionary is now called moderate; and what used to be called insane is now called solid, neo-conservative thinking.”
— Katrina vanden Heuvel
@bigheadtales @elduvelle I don't think I'm far left. But I'm a hell of a lot farther left than most of the people being elected on the left seem to be these days.
@elduvelle shit I clicked the wrong one ... Pout
@melissabeartrix @elduvelle
I won't ask what you did press or what you meant to press (but I don't see Cosmic Star-child on there). 🤷

@miguelpergamon @elduvelle i was going to press "left" and was embarrassed to say what I accidentally pressed ... Giggles @ cosmic star child ... Hugz

@melissabeartrix @elduvelle

I've not voted in this poll - I agree with those who say they'd rather vote anti-capitalist & pro social-justice than "left". 🏴‍☠️
However, I would vote for a party that enfranchises Cosmic Clockwork Starflower children! 👽🌻

The following may not be relevant :-
I had an "issue" with a different poll recently but it turned out that I had indeed hit the button that I had meant.
The Mastodon app doesn't seem to show ticks for selections but the browser version does. 🤷

@miguelpergamon @elduvelle

So true ... I may get a bit of a backlash for this, but hey it's how I feel and think ... being on the outer fringes is a bit fanatical ... If we all took a step towards the centre, and find common ground for the masses life and the planet would be a bit happier ... Hugz ... It would be nice, wouldn't it ?

And with that voting thing, yeah I have noticed that too ... I should check out some of the other apps

@melissabeartrix @elduvelle
Personally, you seem very centred. 💛
@elduvelle this is difficult because I consider myself far-left and progressives to be far-right
@elduvelle but i answered center to avoid screwing with the stats since everyone else is probably using the conventional metric
@agora_brewing @elduvelle
>this is difficult because I consider myself far-left and progressives to be far-right

What did he mean by this? cc @meso
@dushman @elduvelle @meso @agora_brewing just so u can see how much far away to the left he is

@elduvelle
The left vs far-left is interesting for me, since US left is mostly center, and EU far-left is beyond the ken of most USians.

I would like UBI, universal healthcare, high wealth taxes, reparations, strong environmental protection, and nuclear, solar, & wind power so I picked "Left" :-)

@deirdrebeth Yes… for me far-left would be communism or anarchism
@deirdrebeth @elduvelle this is what I consider left, yep. For far left, I have a vague sense of communism — which I don't necessarily hate in concept, but we've yet to see it done well...

@mikestevens @deirdrebeth @elduvelle

I'm for abolishing states and abolishing the need to work for the profit of others to survive so naturally I picked center (j)

@deirdrebeth @elduvelle In the US I think those things are considered far-left. Regular left means support for unions, higher taxes on the rich, and basic environmental responsibility.

@elduvelle

If this were a website with any kind of tracking, one would have to be a fool to answer this question.

@elduvelle I describe myself as a feminist, a Hillary Clinton Democrat, and that’s a more nuanced answer than left of center.
@pferal @elduvelle yes because she is far of the center in the other direction.
@morri @elduvelle Hillary Clinton defines excellence and her election was stolen. As to which direction her views go, left of center, for human rights, environmental protection, animal advocacy, and social justice overall. The smartest person in any room.
@pferal @elduvelle there are a fair amount of users that arent usians and your mind might be blown if i told you bernie sanders in centre "middle of the road" over here
@elduvelle In my bio: social democrat, reformist, technoprogressive humanist
@elduvelle Depends on where the spectrum is defined. In most of the world I am left or center left. In the US I would be considered radical left
@Plumbert hahaha yeah the US is weird…
@elduvelle @Plumbert its cuz we're a crypto fascist country all the way around. kind of a miricle i wound up far left tbh
@elduvelle The center of people who agree with me.
@elduvelle I chose “Left” because supporting basic human rights shouldn’t be considered “far”. I’m sure some of my conservative relatives consider me ultra-far-left, though.
@elduvelle @rayckeith I don’t view politics as a linear scale.
@elduvelle Oh my…I must be dyslexia. I meant to mark left but I actually marked right. Is there a way for me to erase my vote and then revote? I felt dumb!
@normalguy oh noo! I don’t think you can change it..
@elduvelle blocked for political stuff
