I would like to see how far I would get down a typical Glasgow street wearing a $3499 headset before I got jumped.

@jamesthomson 0 footage of using it outside of an indoor space. Apple does not think these are outdoor ready haha.

No maps/AR of real spaces etc. maybe when they can make the form factor smaller.

@axxl @jamesthomson They're not outdoor ready and Apple seems to think they're not a "use while walking around" technology anyway because very few people will want to look that dorky walking into Starbucks. That and the potential lawsuits from people walking around effectively blinded and ending up walking off station platforms or falling down lift shafts...
@jamesthomson Isn’t the point that you don’t go anywhere? Except on a plane.
@jamesthomson don’t worry you’ll see them coming thanks to the extensive camera array
@jamesthomson the subway snatching videos are going to be wild once people find out how much these things are worth
@jamesthomson I guess they carefully didn't show it being used anywhere outside of home/office/airplane. 🤔
@jamesthomson From the Buchanan Street Apple Store if you made it up to the Subway station I’d be very impressed
@jamesthomson if not jumped, about 5 miles because you'd run out of battery first.
@jamesthomson I wonder if I’d see a magpie swooping me or a kangaroo approaching.
@jamesthomson …how far down a typical Glasgow street before you got _roasted_.
@chrisphin Oi, you robot-faced wee shite.
@jamesthomson “Zat so’s you can still hink you’re in Edinburgh, aye?”
@chrisphin @jamesthomson When do they announce morningsideOS?
@jamesthomson I have visions of my teenage son wearing this to school. 😱
@jamesthomson here come 3rd party cases to make it LOOK like it’s only a $500 quest or whatever

@jamesthomson Bet that front glass isn’t very impact-resistant, can’t wait for those YouTube channels with more money than sense to test that out
@jamesthomson WWDC24: introducing Apple Self Defense. We’ve studied thousands of real world robberies of Vision Pro customers, and now through the power of machine learning you can simply defeat the robbers by performing the moves Siri tells you. We use in-headset prediction to show you their movements up to a second in advance so even if you don’t have the greatest reaction time, we think you’re gonna do just fine.
@jamesthomson not if you use the killer app eyePatch - Stress Panda sticker
@jamesthomson James if you wear this outside you deserve to get jumped, and pantsed, and then given a swirlie, and then shoved into your locker
@jamesthomson When they mentioned Apple Pay support, I imagined someone smashing their face onto a card reader in a shop.

@jamesthomson They'll look into your Zombie eyes and run away screaming!

But seriously - all of us are running around in public with £1000 mobile phones, which was unthinkable just a decade ago. So, with the Vision goggles, they'll probably jump you the first year, and then everyone will have them, so no one would blink a (virtual) eye…

@jamesthomson how far can you get with a Rolex?
@jamesfee That's easier to hide.
@jamesthomson true, you crazy long sleeve Scots
@jamesthomson but think, James, a 3D squirrel!

@jamesthomson probably as far as the junction between Buchanan street and St Vincent street.

I remember feeling slightly nervous walking to my car from the Buchanan St store with two 5k displays, one in each hand. Not to mention the fact my arms were falling off by the time I got there! 😅

@jamesthomson brilliant, you could witness yourself getting cheffed with less than 12ms of input lag, and spatial audio… 🙃
