Two good wire joining wrap techniques I found on Tumblr. One's the red set, one's the blue set, sorry they're interleaved it was a gif. But they're definitely going into my how-to-wrap-wire brain toolkit.

Hm. Not clear what the final step is for the red wires. If there's just a single bend in the left wire or the end is just getting snipped off, that looks like it would pull apart really easily under tension

@rmd1023 @wrog which one? the blue one is apparently also called a Western Union knot because they used it in telegraphy.
@wrog @moira Actually, I'm not sure - I learned to call basically any of the "take the ropes and tie knots around each other and pull taut" types as "fisherman's knots." Telegraphy makes sense as well, though, since you're going to have sustained (and expected) tension on the two lines as well. Speaking of knots, I dropped a bookmark for this into pinboard and it turns out the site's still good.
