in issue #87 of white dwarf (before rogue trader released), they ran an interview with the design team (for warhammer fantasy roleplay)
it's a medieval fantasy game. white dwarf even published a little adventure to play with it, and it's just a straight fantasy game
---
fast forward to white dwarf issue 93, and the front cover is warhammer 40,000 rogue trader: full sci-fi space marines blasting everything lol
and the space dwarves? THOSE FUCKERS ARE STILL MEDIEVAL IN QUILT ARMOR AND SHIT
those poor bastards got like no sci-fi reboot till recently
no wonder the tyranids ate them
reboot space dwarves don't seem to be raging assholes tho so i feel like gw gonna spring a fast one in the future lol
turn them into every other shit faction
they're just space dwarves with functioning stcs that wanna mine shit?
stop worshipping tech as gods tho you weirdos
at first i was like oh finally a faction that can make shit
and then it turns out they just have stcs
hear me out, what if i drink while painting
i'm afraid i'll accidentally drink paint water tho xD
oh the come pre-painted too? damn
good price
gateway drug
GATEWAY DRUG
they have a wendigo but it does not look like a fo76 wendigo
it's part of a different series, not sure what for
i feel like i should try and build some of this myself first
that way when i fail i'll think "ninety bucks for that is a fucking steal"
alright imma paint those 3 settlers
prolly not the zetan till i get that white paint
I might try a wash again
Maybe fail less this time
I think actually more failure this time
Too dark holy shit lmao
I do not understand washing. trying brush highlighting to salvage but I think I literally need to redo like half the work
-2/10
alright you know what i'm just done for today lol
i'll fix this pile of shit tomorrow xD
i've been mixing my black ink with water ~50/50 (today was a little stronger because last time it fucking dried gray instead of black/darker???)
it is not working. might be the ink. might be the water. i understand some people use oils, and stores sell actual washes so you don't have to mix them yourself
i don't know what i'm doing wrong. obviously i am doing something wrong
i am also absolutely destroying the tip of my tiny brush
synthetic, i am told i should try natural hairs, but this was a cheapo brush so whatever
the faces infuriate me man lol
i have done no face i'm even vaguely satisfied with so far on a human
32mm scale with realistic human proportions has such tiny ass facial features
i briefly considered painting with a needle
if i could even thin the paint correctly to coat the face without squashing all the features and pooling down the neck or some shit i'd be mildly satisfied at progress
so far 0% success rate
paint is always too thin or too thick
too thin on most areas of a mini is fine, because you can just wait for it to dry and coat it again. tedious, but you just need patience
if you fuck up the face you need to fix the parts it fucked up, and everything is fucked
too thick? scrape that shit off good luck have fun
too thin? pooling. wipe it away and then scrape what you can't wipe away good luck have fun
infuriating
it's also frequently a recessed area (assembled models suddenly sound a lot more reasonable, even if takes more up front work)
get your brush in past clothing, arms, a gun, hair, etc
just the worst fucking thing to paint lol
i feel like i shoulda started with larger models lolol
otoh i loathe the no texture flat mini bases
and bigger models likely means more smooth areas like that
oOOoOoooo i could get that heroforge mini in a larger scale
can't play it in fallout warfare, but style is more cartoony anyway 🤔🤔🤔
hrm i'm confused now. because on the buy section it specifies 30mm scale on a 1 inch base
what is the height character body scale actually do?
ohhhhhh
alright i get it now. you can click on the cog next to height and you get this scaling map
... so actually i can make this more realistically proportioned
just fucking myself
a circle of fucking myself xD
rip their premium plastic has an extended delay
i'll sleep on it xD
So much effort for worse results lolololol
Too lazy to strip the paint and make it not shit
they also have a bunch of power armor helmet kitbashes for sale
fallout x 40k confirmed
@worthlessbums ah. Okay. Its awesome you're mixing your own washes but I would advise parking washing as a technique and picking up a very small selection of premixed ones from a game company. Particularly I think the difficulty you've got is using a black ink when you might want to use a brown or sepia.
You've probably already seen the memes about Citadels own Nuln Oil wash, which is their generic Sepia wash that tends to go with everything. I like using Army Painter Soft Tone for the same kind of effect.
